The aftermath of this experience is the stuff of nightmares. I may have to call a plumber. And just to qualify here...I have Celiac Disease, not just a preference for gluten free anger directed toward me by tired wait staff or disgruntled kitchen workers. Maybe the concept of gluten free food is complicated, but I ordered soup and a sandwich, specifying that I needed it to be gluten free and was told that it would be no problem. After we ordered, I specifically told the woman who took my order that I had Celiac Disease so it needed to be strictly gluten free. She said that was fine and she would be sure to let the food prep staff know. When my food arrived (no spoons for soup? Ok, then) it came with bread. The bread closely resembled the gluten free bread I am used to eating, but just to make sure, I asked. Guess what? Not gluten free. If I hadn't asked, I would have been looking at at least six months of sickness, losing 15-20 pounds, more iron infusions, low vitamin D and B-12 levels, extreme fatigue, loss of work, etc. Instead, she said she'd get me a new one. Well, she didn't. About halfway through the soup, I saw that there were still bread crumbs on the plate that my spoon had been sitting on. How hard would it have been to actually get me a new cup of soup and a clean plate? This is what cross contamination is, friends and neighbors. I have no idea what the kitchen prep area is like, but I'll tell you, I had an hour drive to think about it. Sitting in the car, I used all my yoga and childbirth education powers to clamp my nether regions shut so I didn't end up crapping myself before I could find a private restroom to broil. When I got home, I didn't even shut the garage door or get the stuff out of the car. I sprinted with my butt, my thighs, and my knees super glued together like some cross between an epileptic penguin and a flamingo with hip dysplasia. I stripped off my coat like it was on fire, but alas, it was only the basement. I was lucky that I was able to get to home base before the rains came, but I can tell you that what came next was an unholy experience. Have you ever seen Dogma? This was a level 10 excremental if there ever was one. I babysat that thing for a good 20 minutes before leaving in a green cloud of stench that could have set off fire alarms. So don't tell people you're not going to poison them if you lack the ability to do so. I'm not sure if this was a situation of gross incompetence or just a case of taking revenge on the annoying food fadists. It's not a fad for everyone, and I guarantee I wouldn't be making my life, not to mention my gastrointestinal system miserable if I had a choice. At this point, my choices seem to be granola bar or starve. Thanks for confirming to me that I should never, ever eat out anywhere again. Excuse me, I have to go launch another assault on the sewer system. My septic is getting hectic. World, I'll see you again when my innards return to their...

Unfortunately, multiple people in our organization have now had poor experiences (mainly due to wait times) which leads me to this review. Being an assistant to our President and CEO I regularly order food online for pickup for my boss (who has limited time to nosh). Today after ordering, my food stated it would be ready at 12:15pm. I was there at the allotted pick-up time and waited 60 full minutes to get my food (received it at 1:15pm) which was then obsolete since my boss had meetings scheduled the rest of the afternoon and could not eat. Mod Market - what I ask is that for online orders during busy lunch rushes, you don't give out incorrect information. Instead of stating that the food will be ready for pick-up in 15 minutes, provide an accurate pick-up time (60 minutes). That way, people can get some work done instead of waiting at the to-go counter.
This time around I also had issues with the food itself (typically not the case). I ordered 4 meals, and was given 3 - so had to find someone to ask and make the 4th I had ordered. Two orders were custom and both were unfortunately incorrect (had dressings on it which were not supposed to be and items on it that we had requested removed).
The quality of ingredients is great and we enjoy this style of food - but this may now be a place we avoid due to the consistency in extravagant wait times and lack of detail when...

Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere was nice and the food tasted good, but our first experience with Modern Market on 16th St. (order #13 on January 7, 2017) ended with my wife in the hospital after 8 hours of vomiting and diarrhea.
She had the BLT made gluten free, and two or three hours later wasn't feeling well. By 8:00 PM (and with no other food) she was in the bathroom experiencing her lunch for the second time. Every 20-30 minutes, she was back in the bathroom vomiting. By 3 AM, we were really starting to get worried.
She couldn't hold down even clear fluids, so we called Denver Health. They suggested I bring her in to keep her from becoming dangerously dehydrated. Two bags of IV fluid, a blood test, a urine test, a dose of morphine for the stomach pain, and a CAT scan later, and they ruled out any other condition that could have caused the vomiting, sending us home with anti-nausea medicine after 6 hours.
Needless to say, the sleepless night and hospital bill is enough for me to never return to Modern Market again. Our friends who joined us for lunch (who had a vegetarian sandwich) love the place. Great for them, but we'll never go back.
Ironically, our doctor at the hospital was planning on going to Modern Market for dinner that night with his girlfriend. We told him to stay away from the BLT, or better yet, find a different...
