Wrong attitude, Rustlin Rob! Being a father of two young children...I would not allow them in this shop. The hot sauces that this guy has 'self-invented' as his says, are mixed with more than peppers and chilis, and within reach of any child. He, Rob Simpson, actually removed and hid his "Ground Zero" ( an inproper name to begin with) Hot Sauce from the open shelf, as two women had tried the sauce (which did not show the name or the rate of heat), and were trying to find a way to stop the burning and blistering of their mouths. He, Rustlin Rob himself, spouted out that, "People only want to taste the free samples anyway!" And...that only ten (10) ambulances had been called to his shop that week (this was on a Wednesday), because of his "Ground Zero"... He is saying this in front of people, while these two women are in pain. Yes, he was indeed bragging! But...why remove the container of sauce from the shelf? One employee said, "There was more than peppers and chilis in the test container." This was said, as Rustlin Rob bragged on about how he could consume an entire bottle of "Ground Zero" and never feel a thing. Needless to say, Rustlin Rob left the shop... after the husband of one of the women, voiced his concern of his wife's heart problem. Rustlin Rob, rustled out the door to hide his shame. This worm should be taken out back and left in one the many prickly pear cactus that engulf the town of Fredricksburg,Texas. Out of all the traveling and reviewing that I have done in my twelve (12) years...this was the worst shop, because of the owner, Rob Simpson's self-righteousness. Yes, he was indeed cutting down and judging the very customers that make his living. Rob, we would love to see you try your own "Ground Zero" sauce (the sauce in the container, that you hid), and stop talking. All of the sauces, jellies and so on...can be purchased in any similar shop, except for Rustlin Rob's "Ground Zero" that he hid from customers after the fact. Man up, Rob Simpson! Yes, I bought a bottle of the sauce in question, and found it to be hot, but nothing like what those two women went through! ...
Read moreIf you're looking for a fun FOOD tasting experience in fredericksburg, this is your place. This is a large store that let's you taste literally EVERYTHING. You'll spend awhile in this store.
Location: on main street. Can find by GPS.
Atmosphere: very country feel. Large store with various sections for each type of food. The tastings are "help yourself." They provide crackers and serving spoons. We have been twice and this place was packed on a Saturday but also dead during the weekday (both times in October). They do have portapotties in the back behind the building but I recommend skipping them- I went to use them & totally disgusting.
Service: not alot of interaction with the staff. They mostly keep to themselves except to check out or if you approach with a question. I do wish that staff would monitor a little better during tastings- it wouldn't be difficult for a person to double-dip or be gross. It's all based on honesty (this & bathrooms are my only reasons for 4 out of 5 stars).
Food: savory dips, salsa, cheesecake dips, cider, olives, pickles, jams and preserves, aioli, hot sauce, pickled green tomatoes, jerky (can't taste), queso, summer sausage (can taste if they are making samples), etc.
Prices: Dips run about $5 or 5 for $20. I believe their jarred items (olives, pickles, jams etc.) are about $12. They also sell their store shirts but they are...
Read more@conniesreviews Awesome place with the nicest staff ever and one of the best selection of sauces I've seen. I've only seen larger selections in a couple of other states. However, this store allows WAY more sampling, so it's a winner in my book. They even have sampling of their chili mix in the back of the store along with samplings of their sweet tea and summer sausages & cheese. My boys loved the hot sauce area since they love the extra spicy stuff. My daughter loved the cobbler fillings and aolil's. The bathroom has a quirky outhouse theme inside, which I thought was funny and clever. Check out the pics. The only thing that they really didn't sample was the soup mixes that they offer, but since I'm a soup person I just bought one to give it a go since all their other stuff tasted great. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. I highly recommend a stop by this store to try something new. They have so much variety, I'm sure there's something...
