The USS Intrepid (CV-11), now home to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City, is a legendary aircraft carrier with a rich history. Launched in 1943, the Intrepid served during key moments in World War II, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War, earning its reputation as a "fighting ship" and surviving multiple kamikaze attacks. As a museum today, it offers an immersive experience into the world of naval aviation, military history, and space exploration.

Exploring the USS Intrepid feels like stepping back in time. Visitors can walk across its expansive flight deck, which displays original aircraft from various eras, including fighter jets, helicopters, and reconnaissance planes. These exhibits provide a hands-on look at military aviation and the advanced technology that evolved through decades of service. Additionally, seeing the restored island, bridge, and radar rooms gives visitors a sense of what life was like for the crew who worked and lived aboard.

One of the most memorable parts of the Intrepid Museum is the chance to visit the USS Growler, a submarine from the Cold War era. Touring this tight, confined space offers a unique perspective on the challenging lives of submariners and the stealth tactics used during the Cold War. Another highlight is the Space Shuttle Pavilion, which houses the Enterprise, an early NASA shuttle. The exhibit dives into the history of space exploration, featuring models, equipment, and interactive displays.

The USS Intrepid’s transformation into a museum has preserved its legacy while allowing people of all ages to connect with history. While younger children may find certain areas less engaging, the museum is generally accessible, with staff available for guidance. Overall, the USS Intrepid is a must-see, offering an educational, inspiring, and unforgettable experience on one of America’s most...

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City is an topnotch destination for anyone interested in history, aviation, and exploration. Located on the historic aircraft carrier USS Intrepid along the Hudson River, the museum offers visitors a hands-on experience that feels both educational and inspiring. From the moment you step aboard, you become immersed in decades of American military and technological innovation — surrounded by restored aircraft, detailed exhibits, and stories of courage and ingenuity.

One of the museum’s highlights is its diverse collection of aircraft and spacecraft, including the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a Concorde jet, and a range of military planes and helicopters. Each exhibit is thoughtfully presented with interactive displays and personal stories that bring the history of the air or spacecraft to life. An additional treat for visitors is the submarine Growler. You can gain historical insight into Cold War-era naval life, or climb through sections of the Intrepid itself, such as the flight deck and crew quarters, to better understand life aboard an aircraft carrier over 70 years ago..

Beyond its impressive artifacts, the museum excels at making complex history accessible to visitors of all ages. Its educational programs, flight simulators, and seasonal events foster engagement and curiosity, making it equally appealing to families, students, and aviation enthusiasts. With sweeping views of Manhattan and the Hudson, the setting adds to the experience, blending the grandeur of the city with the awe of human achievement. Overall, the Intrepid Museum stands as a dynamic tribute to exploration, innovation, and the people who made it possible.

The museum is largely ADA accessible but with some limitations. Overall my 14 year old son and I had an amazing visit, and I be you and your...

A historic WW2 Era Aircraft Carrier, a part of the Essex Class of carriers that served in the Pacific theater of WW2. Considering it's a WW2 Era warship, it is huge. I think even by today's standards. I think its size rivals many modern aircraft carriers from other nations. It is beautiful in its design and deserves its due honor. The deck includes many warplanes, including an SR-71 Blackbird jet! I've seen the one at Los Angeles near the parking area of the nearby museums near USC. But so see on a Flat Top deck is awesome. There are various American fighter jets, copters, and even a couple of Mig jet fighters. Below decks, there's plenty to see, including more planes and battle reenactments via sound n visual FX's. You get that awe inspired feel of its tremendous size. It's huge below decks. You can probably play Arena football in there, and some hoops for sure. The USA has Always, Still, and Always will, make the best and most beautiful Aircraft Carriers in the World. As a few bonuses, there's a retired British Airways Concorde adjacent to the USS INTREPID's portside, near the aft. On deck, near the aft, inside its own hangar, is the USS ENTERPRISE SPACE SHUTTLE. And more things to see, including a Sputnik satellite. There's the Museum Store for souvenirs, as well. On board the INTREPID, I did notice that the mess hall wasn't open(I believe it serves as a place for snacks if im correct, fact check me if u like), so eat before or after your visit. All in all, well worth the visit, and I'll visit again next time I'm in town. A piece of history in beautiful NYC. Like in my hometown where I grew up, permanently rests the Battleship USS IOWA, which is equally as awesome. The USS INTREPID is very much worth a visit, and if you have kids, they have activities and fun...
