Toccata is part of the Lucas and Llewellyn Estate Vineyards in the Santa Ynez Valley. Their tasting room s are directly across the street from each other in Copenhagen Street, Solvang. Toccata focuses on Mediterranean style wines such as: Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Sole Bianco and the ever popular Sangiovese among others.
Wines are subjective, so I am not going to say much other than the Sangiovese is excellent and highly regarded here. Among the white varieties, the Sole Bianco is crisp and clean.
Service is excellent. Mike ran the tasting and is the manager of the room. He is highly knowledgeable and friendly. Easily this would be five stars were it not for the one thing missing from not only here, but most all tasting rooms in the area: cheese or crackers to clear the palate between tastings. My guess is this is a cost cutting measure to an extent, but I would argue if they and you are somewhat serious about appreciating the wine, being able to clear the palate would make it much better.
Membership is available here and offers a selection of your preference (all reds/ all whites/ a blend of both) and is...
Read moreAfter spending the day in Solvang, a dissappointing ending to the day. Very RUDE staff. 3 people behind the counter, and 2 of them helping 2 customers purchasing wine (good thing). My girlfriend and I came in, we're reviewing the tastings and politely waited to be acknowledged. Made eye contact with the last server(blonde gal) and was ready to ask for help when she asked what she could do to help the 2 customers already being assisted with their purchase.
I enjoy wine, I enjoy people who make wine and I enjoy people enjoying wine... but it seems like money is their only concern.. not greeting potential customers who enter their establishment. I have never been treated so poorly or ignored like that. I would not give ANY STARS if possible, but it is not an option. I would not recommend this winery.
However, head to Presidio and...
Read moreGreat wines for wine tasting. My husband sampled the their signature flight. His favorite is the Nebbiolo. However, we were served by a rude server. Very uninterested in serving us. When we asked which wines Toccata is known for, perhaps a crowd favorite weâd like to try, but he scoffed and directed us to the menu. We know we can read every little detail in the menu but it wouldnât hurt to be nice and have a conversation about what youâre serving/selling. The tasting felt very rushed. We bought a bottle anyway but regretted the whole experience. We went to another wine shop after and had better service and...
