Some years ago when my wife and I were married, we purchased an heirloom wedding ring from Designs In Gold. The patient and wise store owner “Ginger” found the perfect ring, and my wife fell in love with it the moment she saw it. In the years since, we occasionally visit the Solvang store for a free cleaning. Ginger is always there to greet us, making us feel welcome.

Recently, we went back to the store looking to have a new, larger stone placed in the setting. It involved complex work and some reconstruction to accommodate the larger stone. The finished product looked as though it had been designed that way from the beginning. Ginger worked with us at every step of the process, and took care to make sure that the work was perfect, and we were happy.

I have had the most incredible experience with Designs in Gold. I am originally from the area but due to my husband being in the Military, we got engaged in Alabama. After trying to deal with a jeweler in Alabama to get my ring down to a smaller size, they botched the job. So I got in touch with Penny and Ginger (absolutely fantastic) to see if it was possible to get my ring shipped out and sized appropriately. They were prompt with their response and I got my ring back and it fit absolutely wonderful!! The jeweler resized from a size 8 to a size 5. No diamonds were lost in the process. The process couldn’t have been more smooth. For my wedding band, I shipped it out again to Designs in Gold and they did an amazing job at saudering the two together. I then decided that I wanted a second band for our wedding ceremony. I have a unique ring, so no bands that I could buy from any store would match my rings. I happened to stop by their shop two weeks ago to see if an earring could be made into a necklace. Yes! It took Jim about 15 minutes and while waiting I had a delightful conversation with Ginger. I learned that they buy and sell antique, vintage and estate jewelry; Jim is a talented artist, designer and craftsman producing some very cool jewelry; and, they are a great networking resource - Ginger introduced me to another shop owner who buys and sells Mid-Century Modern furniture and items.

So, since that day I have sold some jewelry, had 3 necklaces repaired so I can finally wear them (yay!), and have a buyer for my Mid-Century items and furniture. Thanks to Ginger and Jim downsizing has been a lot easier for me. Neat people -...
