Although I wasn’t expecting much going into this place, I still managed to be disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. Firstly, they didn’t have carnitas on the menu and instead just provided generic pork which surprised me because I thought carnitas was a pretty basic baseline option for any sort of Mexican restaurant to serve but I guess not here. Secondly, when the food came out, I thought they gave me the wrong order because when I opened the bag, I saw roughly what’s in the image attached. If you couldn’t tell they were supposed to be tacos, I wouldn’t blame you, it fooled me too. I asked the staff if perhaps some sort of mixup had occurred but they (patiently and politely) reassured me that the dish before me was, in fact, two tacos, just with an “unconventional” twist. Slightly perturbed by the two prior dilemmas, I began to chow down and was annoyed to realize that the “tacos” were not in the least bit spicy! Bear in mind that I had explicitly ordered the “spicy” option (which is rare for me in most places) simply because I had already assumed that the “mild” or “medium” would be weak sauce in this establishment. I was truly amazed to learn that even the spicy option packed zero punch whatsoever. Listen, I am as White as they come and this “spice” failed to even register on my decidedly Anglo-Saxon tastebuds. I can only imagine a born-and-bred Mestizo attempting to enjoy this dish. The one upside of my experience here was that the service was friendly and I received my mediocre food quickly and efficiently. In closing, I would say that it might be more accurate to describe this place as a Mediterranean restaurant as opposed to Mexican, given the fact that my “tacos” more resembled a gyro if anything else. Maybe I’m being too harsh on a foreign food restaurant in Vermont but I figured every corner of the US would have Mexican food on lock at this point. P.S. Reading this review back, I’m not trying to make this a racial thing as I have had excellent Latin American cuisine that was cooked and prepared by other White people. I just hope this specific place tries a new approach and perhaps gets someone else in the kitchen.

Tasty burritos, bowls and tacos for those on the go! Bueno Y Sano has great options for carnivores and vegetarians with some very unique flavor combinations. Of course, traditional options are available too. Dining solo for this stop I chose the chipotle chicken burrito with medium heat sauce. I did stop by during the lunch rush so my order did take longer than usual to prepare. But, no worries! I enjoyed a Heady Topper beer while I waited. I also grabbed a bit of their hot sauce to try … nice and SPICY! A pleasant surprise. Burrito in hand, I first notice that the flour tortilla is quite nice. Definitely a better quality than the typical fast food restaurants, and I’m wondering if the tortillas are from the local All Souls Tortilleria in Burlington. The burrito was STUFFED! The chicken was tender, and nicely chipotle sauced. The medium hot sauce was very good, and the addition of the hot sauce gave the heat level a nice kick. The burrito also included black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, rice, and sour cream. Overall, a very good burrito for a quick stop, and I appreciate that it is not a chain restaurant. Give Bueno Y Sano a try next time you’re craving Mexican flavors!

When there was a location on college street in Burlington the Thai chicken burrito was my absolute favorite burrito around. Especially when loaded with the corn salsa they made themselves. So so good. When this location opened and the college street location closed, it seemed like the food suffered a little, the location wasn’t as convenient for me and I went less frequently. Now the corn salsa isn’t available (I was told it was too expensive) and this last burrito I got is smaller than my fist???!! I definitely don’t feel like I received good value for what I paid. I understand that food costs have risen and would understand if that was reflected in the price. I’m ok paying for taste and quality, but when a place just shrinks the portion and cuts out the ingredients that make it great - I’m done. I used to recommend this burrito. I honestly just can’t anymore, and that’s sad.

The best buffalo chicken burrito! My favorite!

Edit: for the first time, after being a regular customer for the last year, my order was made incorrectly. Not a big deal, but unfortunately after driving half an hour back to have it remade, showing them my burrito and online order receipt, I was met with an uncomfortable experience. Although the employees were not blatantly rude, I could tell they were bothered that I had requested a new burrito and overheard some comments about it. I find this quite bothersome given that many have food allergies or intolerances to ingredients and asking to have something remade correctly, per their order, should never be met with irritation. Additionally, my remade burrito was much smaller than the first. I was surprised by this experience and it will definitely deter me from going in the future, which is sad given that this has been my...
