Miztli Lodge & Adventures — Hotel in Monteverde

Reason I rated Miztli 4 stars instead of 5: There is no AC or heat in any of the rooms and the location of the hotel allows very minimal air flow through the windows. From reading previous reviews, it seems all the rooms may not have ceiling fans, when booking I would confirm your room has a ceiling fan. Breakfast is only from 7am-9am, most activities start at 7am/7:30am, resulting in you missing breakfast. It would be nice if breakfast started at 6am. Miztli is located on a LARGE hill, I am 30 and active but between the altitude change and steepness of the hill, it was a struggle - something to keep in mind for less fit/elderly. You can of course rent a taxi/shuttle to take you to restaurants down the hill too though. While I enjoyed the hardwood floors for a cleanliness factor vs. carpet, it did make it louder. We could easily hear the family in the room next to us regularly.

We stayed in the family garden view room and we really enjoyed how clean and spacious the room and the bathroom was. Breakfast was FANTASTIC! We were offered 4 different options and we put our order in the night before with the front desk staff. The breakfast room has a beautiful view of the city/mountains. Staff was friendly and helpful. Check in/out was easy. Parking is a small area right in front of the lodge but we had no issue getting a spot each time...

Overall, we had a good stay. The young lady that works at the front desk is so cheerful and fun and is a great host! She lent my wife her shirt. ||The room and lodge is kind of quirky. We were given 3 keys, one to enter a foyer from the outside that you had to lock with the key, another for the room and another for the lobby. I would urge the owners to change the locks so that you can open the doors from the inside in case of emergency. The current set-up is not safe. ||The lodging was very clean and had a nice kitchenette. There were wooden chairs in the room. The bed was comfortable. Miztli Lodge was an pleasant stay. The staff are very kind. The bed was comfy. Room was dark. Excellent breakfast is included with price. Nice security - one external locking door, plus the room door lock.

A few tips for improvement: Room was hot. No air conditioning and no fan. Very stuffy and only a small window in our room. However, I saw a ceiling fan in another room - so inquire if it is important to you. Fans could be useful in every room. The bathroom did not have a proper door. It is a "saloon style" door. Zero privacy to do your business. Our room had a great seating area, but it has wooden Adirondack chairs. They could benefit by putting a comfy couch to sit, relax and read.
