Koora Hotel — Hotel in Monteverde

If heaven were a place on Earth, surely Koora would be that place. I booked our stay here as a stopover of three nights as we made our way from Liberia to Manuel Antonio. I was not sure what to expect but I can assure you that every single detail at Koora well exceeded my expectations. We arrived later than expected and were greeted with a stunning lit drive to the exquisitely furnished lobby. I’m sure our party looked a sight, having traveled the wrong way up to Monteverde, but the incredibly gracious front desk concierge team at Koora instantly made us feel welcomed and at-ease. Raquel was informative, kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to ensure our stay was memorable. I have had the privilege of staying in top-notch resorts around the world and can confirm that I have never experienced such a perfectly curated resort such as Koora. The furnishings, the lighting, the location of the bungalows (our party stayed in the Cloud Forest Bungalow - perfect for families!), and the amenities were all spectacular. Their approach is a quiet elegance, one that offers first-class customer service and sustainable practices with none of the pretentiousness. The location is remote and this offers a unique experience with many wildlife encounters (we spotted coati, agouti, toucan, mot-mot, purple hummingbirds, and many more right outside our balcony). The concierge was helpful in planning our daytime excursions and dinner reservation at Kiré. We ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant on-site (Kiré). Everything we ate was exquisite. The staff at the restaurant was incredibly kind, attentive, and went above-and-beyond. After our stay at Koora we traveled on to a high-demand, luxury resort. We couldn't recommend this place enough it is a fantastic place to rest in monteverde and to soak up all that nature has to offer! We are quite a reserved couple and like a quiet place to go back to in the evenings and this was just that. No cars, no noisy bars around, or people (other than the other guests). The rooms were clean and super spacious with amazing views.

The views from the restaurant were spectacular and the food was divine! We didn't bother eating out once because it was so good. Do not leave here without trying the 'traditional mariscada' at dinner, a dish I will never forget! And ofcourse the chocolate lava cake just melts in your mouth!

The front desk was super helpful and friendly, giving us all the information we needed and booking last minute tours & transfers for us. The waiters were very lovely and attentive, made us feel right at home!

The free aguti trail next door was an amazing walk next to the the hotel grounds and easy to navigate. You can see more than enough animals and huge trees there, which are in the monteverde cloud forest with no entry cost and only a minute walk away! Definitely check that out on your arrival! We saw a family of white face monkeys, Turkey vultures, agutis, coaties and an abundance of birds and butterflies to and from our rooms too! When they tell you to lock your windows and doors they weren't joking when they say the monkeys can get in, we saw them try get into ours!

If like us, you're travelling from la fontuna, It is advised to bring a light puffer/rain jacket and some long sleeves & pjs for monteverde as it does get chilly in the mornings and more so in the evenings when the sun goes down. Also bring some ear plugs, as it can get super windy up here making the trees sway, which can be quite loud but that's just nature!

Book it, you won’t be disappointed! Our family stayed in the cloud bungalow, and the accommodations were incredible! We were incredibly comfortable and had plenty of room to spread out and relax while on the property. Everything is immaculate. The staff here make you feel like family and do everything they can to make you feel at home, honoring every request you can think of. We dined exclusively on property while we were here, and every time we were greeted by name by Erick, Allison or Fio. They arrived at our table with smiles, and fresh bread or croissants that are prepared onsite. Whether it was the breakfast, lunch or dinner, the food was incredible. Breakfast included delicious coffee, an amazing fruit plate, fresh baked croissants, and an item of your choice. The French toast is the best I have ever had, and the omelette had sautéed vegetables that were cooked to perfection. Lunch and dinner was equally delicious and carefully prepared to perfection! Erick made me the most incredible latte! One night we went just for dessert and it was so good my kids were scrapping the dish. Artisanal ice cream was so good! They arranged our tours and the transportation for us which made it possible for me to really relax. Anytime I messaged the reception, we received an immediate response and every need met. While it rained, there are umbrellas for your convenience all over the property and watching the rain from here is beautiful. The onsite hiking trails are perfect for getting outside, experience the local flora and fauna, with tons of birds! The views are the best.
