First of all, the young and highly attentive staff, especially Ahmed and Hassan are terrific! They put out a lovely complementary breakfast each morning made to order and went out of their way to help me troubleshoot the Internet (which remained a lagggardly and unstable 3mbps). The general manager, Ibrahim was friendly and very insistent on knowing how he could improve the guest experience. My first night I was welcomed by owner Tarek, who accommodated me immediately, despite me not having a reservation.
There are a lot of pros to this property: the best pillows in all of Egypt, big beach towels for the pool, nice lounging area to meet other guests, and a very budget friendly price.
I’m holding back a few stars for the cons that were unique to my experience and are probably temporary. The property is in a state of transition, with a few new rooms, being added, and some construction underway next-door. This means you’ll find some unfinished electrical, a little extra sand, and in my case a bedroom window which couldn’t quite close all the way when a noisy work crew shut up just outside at 5:40 in the morning.
For light sleepers, you might want to bring ear plugs to insulate the early dawn call to prayer—which is quite loud from the mosque next-door—and some over-eager roosters who for 2-3 hours just couldn’t get over the fact that the sun had risen 😂🐓🐓☀️.
So, not the best location in all of Luxor, but the restaurants nearby impressed me, and it’s a great West Bank launchpad for excursions to Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut’s temple. (consider renting a bicycle from “mango” on the main road; I also recommend a haircut or beard trim from Tharwat Barber for any scraggly traveler).
I’m sure Ibrahim and his promising young staff will have this place (inc a new internet solution) upgraded and refreshed in the next few weeks and if so, I’ll be happy to...
Read moreLet me start with the advantages. The rooms are clean and spacious, the hotel environment is good, with a beautiful outdoor corridor and swimming pool. It is not far from the public pier on the west bank, and there are many restaurants nearby, making it convenient for travel and dining.
However, there are also many disadvantages. The staff lacks service and professionalism. Before checking in, I requested to see the room first, but was arrogantly refused by the manager. It wasn't until I suggested to cancel my booking that he changed his attitude and agreed to let me see the room first. The room does not have air conditioning, which may not be necessary in March, but it could be a concern during the summer.
The hotel's Wi-Fi is very poor; it's difficult to connect in the rooms. When I suggested placing the router in a location where more people could share it (originally placed near the pool where there were no guests and far away from all rooms), I was accused by a staff of wanting to monopolize the router for myself. Clearly, having only one router for a hotel is very unreasonable, but they have not upgraded their equipment in a timely manner and instead sarcastically implied that guests are selfish.
Furthermore, I made a payment-on-arrival reservation, but after paying cash for room fee, I did not receive change. Although it's common in Egypt, I believe such a lack of service awareness and staff quality is far from deserving the current...

We were so happy to have stayed at Oasis Guest House in Luxor. The minute we entered, we were welcomed with a cold drink and and a quick tour. The rooms and bathrooms are restful and spotless. The garden is so pretty. The laundry service was a great help. The staff is the real gem though. We had texted before our stay and asked for help arranging tours. Ibrahim took care of everything! He gave us Ahmed Emam for 2 days of sightseeing. Ahmed was an expert historian and brought everything to life for us. He was handpicked along with our driver and the cost was very reasonable. Ibrahim also arranged for a balloon ride and amazingly took us on his own tuk tuk for a ride through adjacent villages and markets. We learned so much about their way of life and really enjoyed getting to know everyone. We also received great restaurant recommendations: Thebes, right in the water and, best of all, Ibrahim’s mother made us dinner one night! It was incredible. Memorable, special, and highly...
