We stayed here a few weeks ago, as we liked the idea of a view of the pyramids for our first few nights in Egypt. The view from our room was amazing, though the view from the rooftop terrace is the best.
Marwan checked us in and he was great, very friendly and welcoming, and even wanted to make sure we knew the guy who dropped us off after he saw us give a lot of money to him. We did know him, he was our tour guide and we were paying for our tour, but we appreciated that Marwan was looking out for us as we knew that unfortunately tourists can't trust many people in Egypt.
I wish I could say the same for their entire staff. One of their other desk people heard us talking about wanting to buy a SIM card, so he offered to take us next door to what he told us was his family's shop, and sold us two SIM cards for like £20 each that he told us were 12 gigs. When one of us ran out of data later, we went to a Vodafone store and found out that they only had 4 gigs. I won't post his name but the hotel management should really talk to him about this, as tourists should not have to worry about their hotel's staff scamming them if Egypt ever hopes to gain its tourism industry back.
The building itself is very old and desperately needs to be remodeled. The entrance is a short distance down a deserted alleyway (it's totally safe, only about 10 feet) but the sign is tiny, so we had a very hard time finding it. It's a grungy area but there are shops around. We didn't really walk around much, but it's a great location for the pyramids.
The room was small but clean in the sense that they had clearly cleaned as best they could (the linens were clean and everything), but the building is in very bad shape. On our last night the handle for the shower completely fell off in the middle of a shower and we couldn't turn it off. I ran downstairs to tell them and they sent a young boy up who took off the shower head and put the hose down the drain to keep it from spraying everywhere, but they didn't offer us a different room and no one ever came to fix it, so we just had to sleep with the shower running on full blast all night. To be fair, they may not have had another room available, but it wasn't late, maybe 7pm, so we were surprised they couldn't find a maintenance person.
Anyway it was fine for a short stay, but it's a shame they haven't maintained it -- if they remodeled the rooms it would be one of the best small hotels in Giza. The view is amazing and breakfast on the...
Read moreIt was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in, speaking of the service received. It was my first time in Cairo, and well, I didn’t know the city was so dirty. The hotel has a great location, that's undeniable, and the view of the pyramids from the terrace on the 7th floor is amazing. However, I was disappointed with the staff's attitude and the room itself.
The bathroom smelled weird, like a mix of dampness and sewage, and there was a water leak that kept the floor wet. The shower was the same; it didn’t have a curtain, so water splashed everywhere. The Wi-Fi worked terribly; in fact, it never worked in my room (6th floor), so I had to use MY phone data. Although breakfast was included, the lady serving it wasn’t very nice. You had to pay extra if you wanted another coffee (a rip-off, in my opinion), and if I didn’t ask where the juice was, she wouldn’t bring it to me.
They advertised a laundry service, so I left my clothes to be washed. They told me it would be ready that same day at 7 pm, but when I returned at that time, NO ONE KNEW WHERE MY CLOTHES WERE. I don’t know if they never washed them or what happened, but it was a stressful experience because nobody could tell me where my clothes were. The receptionist seemed more concerned with his phone and smoking cigarettes than anything else—zero attention to guests. Only one guy working at the hotel apologized to me. I asked for a refund, and thankfully, they gave it to me.
Also, before arriving at the hotel for check-in, they offered me an airport transfer service for $20 USD, which is outrageously expensive for Cairo. Other services they offered, like the Nile dinner tour or a trip to Luxor, were also overpriced. In the end, I decided not to book anything else with them, as it felt like they were trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of tourists—just like everything else in Cairo.
The only positive thing I can highlight about the hotel is Hagar, one of the morning receptionists. She was very friendly and kind, and I loved seeing women working in a place that, apparently, is...
Read moreDo not stay at this place!!!! I wish I could rate the place a 0. It’s located down a dirty alleyway off the street across from a horse and camel stable. The smell is pretty bad. We never would have found it without the help of locals because there is literally no signs anywhere. We arrived at the hotel and they made us wait for about 30min as they discussed for a long time. They finally took us to our room and it was not the one I had booked. I had paid for a view of the pyramid and this room had a tiny window above the bed that faced a wall. The room was not really nice either. They were trying to talk around the issue saying they would show me the rooftop with the view. After showing my confirmation information once more, we again had to wait while they shuffled around and spoke amongst each other. We were asked to follow a gentleman and he walked us out of the hotel and headed to another location. Also to note, both buildings do not have elevators so be prepared for a lot of stairs. Based on Google maps, it looked like we were taken to another hotel assuming that they gave our room away. After our stay I realized they do this to A LOT of people reading into more of the other reviews. The room looked nothing like the images online. Flies were all over the room, beds and walls were filthy. The bathroom was also disgusting with a broken door, falling off handle and it could not close so the solution was to jam it up with toilet paper. Not sure how that helped the door. Last to note, the dogs outside never stopped barking. We stayed in so many cities throughout Egypt and never experienced this before. I’m pretty certain this was a scam. We had enough and left in the middle of the night to head to the airport hours early. This was our 5th place in Egypt and was in no comparison anything near the standards of the others but was somehow in the same price range. Stay in downtown Cairo, we loved it there. The atmosphere outside of the hotels there is far superior than what is located...
