On the positive side the room was quiet and spacious. The location was also very good being by a large train station and shopping. The problem was with the service. First, our room was not ready and the front desk person had to make our extra bed (the one shining moment of service). Then we requested a laundry service and they lost our laundry even with all the forms completed and attached to the bag. We ended up getting our still dirty laundry back 36 hours later, just in time to pack it. It took several calls to 3 different people operating the front desk and still had to be stern to get our clothes back. Hotel took no responsibility and said it was their sub contractors fault. They then charged us $30 Euro for late check out, that we needed because we did not have our clothes back! The hotel also does not do daily room cleaning. I am fine with this and often choose not to have our room cleaned every day. However at this hotel it is the norm and you have to request TO have it cleaned. They were also skimpy on towels, hangers and we even had to ask for the before-mentioned laundry bag. Lastly, the air conditioning was set to turn off after 2 hours of use. I had to get up every night every 2 hours to turn it back on in both our rooms. I just get the impression the hotel is trying to do whatever it can to cut costs while still trying to portray itself as a 4 star hotel....
Read moreFirst and most importantly (for me), the room was very clean and quiet. Other pros: Friendly, helpful staff and fantastic location. The cons: The rooms are UNBELIEVABLY small. I am from NYC and have travelled to many large cities on a budget--so I know all about small spaces. This place was over the top. We literally could barely maneuver ourselves around. We didn't even have the smallest room in the hotel--we stayed in a "superior room." And yes, we got a good price, but I don't feel that we got a "great value"--especially since this is Berlin and not London, Tokyo, etc.||Whenever I travel to Europe, I check with hotels in advance to make sure that their large beds are not actually just 2 small beds pushed together. I forgot to do that for this trip, and sure enough that's what we got. Luckily, the staff was able to find us another room that had a normal bed with no fuss. They were really lovely about it. Be sure to make your needs known in advance if you choose to stay here.||Another thing that made the room weirdly uncomfortable was the lighting. Suffice it to say that unless the blinds were open, you can't see much of anything, and even getting the lights on and off required this bizarre system that was just...
Read moreSatyen M This hotel provides hostel service at the price of a luxury hotel. The air conditioning is shut off after 2 hours every time. However, they did let it run throughout the night after we complained after the first night. There is no front office from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and at least one receptionist was downright rude. There is no telephone in the rooms to reach the front office, so one has to walk down to the reception if one needs anything. There is no cable TV. You are expected to use your own apps to get any kind of TV, so no CNN or BBC. The shower can be scalding hot if one is not careful. There are no doors to the shower, so one has to be very careful to make sure that the water does not spill out. The design of the rooms is really odd. The sink is right in the bedroom, which can be disturbing if your spouse wakes up earlier than you. The milk/coffee whitener was still and curdled on the first day. However, after complaints, they did provide extra milk, and they did keep the air conditioning on at night like we wanted. This place is a hostel that charges luxury prices. Don't be fooled by the name Lux 11 or the hotel photos on...
