This hotel was a wonderful place to stay after a long and tiring trip from Guatemala City in March, 2017. Road construction delayed the bus considerably, so that we ate lunch at the place we were to have supper, and supper was well after dark at Rio Dulce. It was midnight by the time we arrived at this lodge. The most disappointing down side of the trip was that during this long trip the guide put on a movie in the bus for us to watch. It was filled with foul language, obscenities and cursing. I asked for the film to be turned off. The guide refused. It spoiled our whole trip. I have asked Caravan for a statement of their policies for such things. They have simply said they leave things up to the guides they ire. the only problem with this response is that it was the Latin American supervisor for Caravan himself who recommended this film...
Read moreThis hotel is obviously a budget option but I would expect certain standards. The room was unbearably hot, dark and dingy, grubby, with cockroaches crawling around the place. When I told the hotel owner (a nice guy - the only redeeming feature of the place), he just laughed and grabbed the insecticide spray and chased them around the room. ||||We were supposed to stay another night but checked out a day early and stayed in Flores Hotel Boutique instead - it felt positively utopian after that night of horror in Hotel PetenChel.||||I feel bad leaving such a negative review as the hotel owner seemed nice but I just want to warn other travellers.
