Firstly a disclaimer: Im accustomed to high standards so please read my review with that in mind.||Lets start off with the good things first. The location is really good, right in the city center with lots of restaurants, bars and shops nearby. The breakfast is adequate, above avearge i'd say and the rooms are decent.||||Now for the bad part, which ended of ruining the whole experience for me.||||We got two keys/cards for the room but only one of them worked. We just used the one that didnt work to power the electricity all the time (there is a slot in which you need to put it in order for the lights and A/C to work).||That resulted in the cleaning personal knicking our card when we were out, apparently to save electricity (or so the staff said).||||Thats fine, weird but fine, but they didnt leave the card in the room and there was no note that they had taken it. I had to go down from third floor, stand in line for 15-20 minutes at the reception to be told that the cleaning personal had indeed taken the card and that this was standard and, as mentioned, to save electricity.||We got a new card and this also didnt work for the door so we just used it for electricity once again.||After a long and hot day this led to frustration but it wasnt the end of the world.||||The next day I made sure to unplug the card from the slot when we left the room and when we came back the cleaning personal had once again knicked the card. Again, didnt leave it in the room, no note no nothing. By now, I was kinda getting angry about it. So, once again I went down from third floor and got in line at the reception. They didnt seem very understanding other than telling me "they do it to save electricity". OKAY FINE! But it wasnt plugged in this time and even if it were why dont they just take it out of the slot and leave it in the room so I dont have to waste my precious time going down ten thousand of stairs to stand in line and receive a new card...... Words cant explain how illogical that is.||After a heated conversation I get a new card and at least this one worked for the door also. Finally! Only took three attempts. The older guy in the reception said something in Hungarian, which I didnt understand and can only assume it was some form of insult.||||So, on the last day before our departure we finally had two cards that could open the door to the hotel and the door to our room meaning we could actually split up and not be dependant on eachother.||||I have visited plenty of hotels in my lifetime so far and never have I experienced that the staff or cleaning personal steals your card. Never. Nowhere does it say you cant leave the card in and nowhere does it say that doing so may result in theft. Which is basicly is in my view.||||So, to sum up, the location is good, breakfast is fine and the rooms are okay but the experience and situations with the cards drags it so much down that I would highly reconsider staying at another hotel. Unless you can get this dirt cheap and/or doesnt care about people stealing your stuff.||||I will probably get the standard "my sincerest apology, we hope you will give the opportunity bla bla bla" reply from the hotel which I dont really care for cause its useless to me and dont mean anything. Actions speak...
Read moreI seriously doubt the scores of Mgallery Budapast of Accor website, google map, or Tripadvisor are to some extent made artificially. I stayed in many different accor hotels or other brand hotel in different countries. In comparison, the price and quality of Mgallery Budapest now should not correspond to 4.6 points on Google map or 4.5 points on tripadvisor with other hotels in Budapest. The hotel management need to improve a lot to meet these scores, and even to fit the standard of Mgallery brand. In facr, if I know the real situation of this hotel in advance, instead of only seeing the scores on any platform, I will not choose this hotel for traveling in Budapest.
The rooms of this hotel are generally not only too small, but also decorated badly, especially for those room decorated in black color. When you see the details of its black wall paper, general people also would understand it is not any kind of "modern design style", but only of low cost decorations. This decorations harm the brand of mgallery.
The hotel seems do not have enough staffs. I found in the evening the light of Cafe always turn off, and no one serve there. As a result, no customer would come here to have a dinner. This is not a good circle for a 4 star hotel.
Some staffs of reception may need some professional training in hospitality industry. I know there are cultural differences, but I wish they should speak with their customers more politely, and when they may make some mistakes, they would have apologize well.
The house keepers seems rarely use vacuum cleaner to clean the room. Besides, they do not clean the room well, even each room is small. As a result, after house keeping, we still often see hairs or small dust on the floor in our room or bathroom. Sometimes I even found the small conditioner bottle is used.
Besides, for Accor gold member, the hotel allow us to have the soft drinks in mini bar for free. Thanks. But I found they do not refill the drinks or snacks in minibar during our stay. I doubt this is following the terms of Mgallery. And The standard of house keeping should be improved a lot ( maybe they need more staffs and better salary).
Before the Sofitel Budapest reopen in the future, Mgallery Budapest would be the highest level brand botel in accpr hotels. However, now it is not a hotel good enough in any dimension. I wish the Accor management can investigate and scrutinize the hotel issues well, and make it reborn to a real Mgallery standard hotel.
Before that, I should only give one point to this hotel, in order to let other customer know the real...
Read moreOverall, it doesn't meet the standards for the hotel chain it belongs to. So, expect disappointment if you've been to several others but you'll probably enjoy your stay otherwise
Cons: slow internet shower head installed on the wrong side, so almost no space to stand properly shower drain broken 3 of the light fixtures don't work fan for AC extremely loud some broken hangers only one USB outlet, which is super slow no alarm clock slot to put keycard in wall is partially blocked by the thermostat, so you need to bend the key without breaking if you want to insert it part of wall missing/chipped off lift smells awful & needed to press button few times before it finally went up carpet not easy to roll your suitcase on (and no one offered help with luggage either) most items at breakfast empty, leftover fruit was mostly spoiled only two euro shams for pillows bar and concierge on site close randomly/whenever they want instead of following the official hours shower head improperly placed, so most of your body touches the wall while you attempt to shower reported these concerns to two people at front desk and posted most of this review during my stay too but received a reply one month later saying there's no report of me bringing up these concerns during my stay, which is not true at all
Pros good architecture water temperature is hot enough with adequate pressure, could be improved though bed comfortable taxi ("airport shuttle") arrived on time
While there were some positives, there were a lot more negatives that does not make this hotel worth the money and it's an embarrassment to the other hotels with this brand because others create true luxury, authenticity, and are modern in the required ways at the same time where this one tried that but did not succeed. And I was told this is the best room, so definitely won't be booking this hotel in the future. Their service is also the worst I've seen, but that seems to be expected in Hungary--please visit other countries to learn what it means to be a four-star hotel so you can start fixing your issues. Wish I read the reviews before booking instead of assuming it'll have the same quality as other hotels in this brand, won't make that...
