Review: Absolutely the Worst Hotel Experience – Avoid at All Costs
I rarely write such negative reviews, but my experience at Rajayu Suites Monkey Forest, Ubud, was so profoundly disappointing that I feel obliged to warn others.
Upon arrival, the room conditions were appalling. The walls were covered in damp patches, the air smelled strongly of sewage, and the overall cleanliness was nonexistent. The bed linens had visible stains, the pillows had an unpleasant odor, and the bathroom was in equally disastrous condition – filled with humidity, grime, and the same unbearable sewage smell. The towels provided were absolutely unacceptable: most were dirty, with visible stains (including makeup marks from previous guests), and about 90% of them had holes or looked worn out. We had to request replacements several times, only to be given more of the same. This shows an extremely poor and negligent laundry service.
The first room we were given was even worse: two single beds pushed together, with sheets that did not even cover the mattress fully. Parts of the mattress were exposed and clearly unclean, forcing me to come into contact with it while trying to sleep. This is beyond unacceptable for any hotel standard.
The first night was a complete nightmare. The neighboring room was occupied by a group who held a loud party, drinking, playing music, and bringing non-guests into the property. They were using the swimming pool until dawn, well beyond permitted hours. There was no security, no staff presence, no response from reception or the emergency phone line. We were left completely helpless and unable to rest until 6:00 in the morning. This shows a shocking lack of management, security, and basic respect for paying guests.
Breakfast was another disaster – extremely limited, poorly presented, and served in the same unsanitary conditions that characterized the rest of the hotel. We requested an urgent room change the following day. While the second room was marginally better, the bathroom remained dirty, moldy, and continued to smell of sewage. The lack of proper ventilation meant insects (ants, mosquitoes, etc.) entered constantly through a small vent, making it impossible to keep the bathroom door open.
Despite receiving apologies from the staff, the reality is that nothing meaningful was done to solve these problems. The conditions of this property are completely misrepresented online, and it is unacceptable that such accommodation is being marketed to unsuspecting travelers.
In all my years of traveling, this stands out as one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Both my partner and I were deeply disappointed and frustrated. I strongly advise future travelers to avoid this hotel entirely – it is far from the standards advertised, and our stay was nothing...
Read moreStarted as a bolt hole for us two. We paid a very discounted price of 770000INR for two nights. Room a bit mildewy but it's at the bottom of the hill (104) and so also next to the jungle and the river plus the pool is at your front door. I should add; the always cool and refreshing pool (unlike the hot bathwater-like pool at the Seminyak villa we had previously. Anyhoo, good value really and in a brilliant spot with (simple egg based or goreng breakfast included, we like what we got. We extended another two days. We are on Jalan Monkey Forest and I'm popping there tomorrow. Brilliant services, shops and food at your door! |A lovely quiet hideaway and we have now been joined by our two lads. The neohs are in 103 and 104 and I'd choose these rooms if I had the choice and there are other lovely rooms. Lots of glass to see out of. Big beds that are quite comfortable if not quite deluxe. Certainly very large. |General cleanliness could be improved but it's better than my last place. I always think it's attention to detail and presentation that can count here and that's not entirely there. But would, or do I think that the wonderful staff here are all anything but we'll, wonderful: no. They're superb. |My room has a good A/C, a ceiling fan and a little fridge for my essentials and a hairdryer.|We are very happy and as I said, we have extended our stay, so we must be. |This is a great and reasonably priced stay near the Monkey Forrest and a rented Scoopy rude away from anything in town with taxi guys at the door (look for Adi over the road at the tourist stand, he will do you well, is straight-up, honest as the day is long and great to talk to can get you sorted for anything).|Actually, that's my overwhelming feeling here in Bali, but especially in Ubud: honesty, sincerity and goodwill....
Read moreGreat location, not so great standards for hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of Ubud, walking distance for loads of bars, restaurants, shops and the monkey sanctuary.
The staff are super friendly, and it had good air con.
However there were a few big misses for us here, we had no hot water in our room and despite raising 3 times and being told it was fixed, we never got it working. There was also no soap in the bathroom. Also, there was no glass in the bathroom windows and part of the bedroom windows (wooden bars over for security), this meant though that we were woken up at night with monkeys screaming, people getting back late and early morning cleaners.
I would also note, there are a lot of monkeys in and around the hotel, we woke up to 8 monkeys on our patio eating our towels, and when you're having breakfast they can jump on your table and eat your food, so be careful! This does come with being so close to the monkey forest though which is a great experience, just be careful to not bring anything valuable as we saw monkeys attack people for valuables, food and water bottles.
Other than that is was a pleasant stay, but a few obvious fixes to be made for...
