Minshuku Koumekawa is a small family-run inn in the district of HIgashiyama conveniently located about 4 mins walk from the subway station Higashiyama. The inn is about 10 mins walk from Gion and a stone's throw from the river alongside the Philosopher's Walk.||||The owner does not speak English well but they are very welcoming and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed staying there though it was for one night.||||We ordered the dinner-breakfast plan and it was a traditional kyo kaiseki meal which was plentiful and delicious. The owner accommodated our request for a seafood/vegetable meal. ||||Room was traditional tatami and comfortable, though there was no bathroom. It is a shared bathroom located at the ground floor. Read moreI stayed here for five days and loved it. I really felt like a guest for the time that I stayed there. Umetani, the proprietor, was really wonderful to be around and was very helpful. The location is terrific, right next to the Higashiyama subway station and the rooms are very pleasant. I stayed in a single occupancy room which did not have a bathroom but I found that to be only a minor inconvenience. None of the rooms have showers (as far as I could tell). Read moreWe stayed for one night and loved it - can definitely recommend staying here! Our room was large with its own toilet and sinks and a hairdryer. There was plenty of bedding so we were warm and cosy. (You assemble your own bedding from the futons, sheets and blankets provided.) The shared bathroom contains a tub and shower and shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided. Everything was very clean.
