After a mishap at the airport, my travel group and I had to stay an unexpected extra two days in Cusco. The first night all we could find was a Hotel that cost about $80 per night. After we had moved into our rooms there we began to search for a less expensive room for the next night. Hostal Huaynapata was the first one we happened upon and I am glad it was. The man at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating, making it easy to reserve two rooms for the next night, although I payed for one room in cash up front (100 soles for two people) to reserve the two rooms, the other two in my group wanted to pay with card. The attendant said this was no problem, we would just have to take the card to their other office the next day when it was open and pay that part then. I was given a receipt and directions to the card payment office (which turned out to be another hostel on the other side of the main plaza) and was on my way. As I left I had some trepidation about the legitimacy of the whole deal, but when I arrived the next day to check in everything was on the level. There was a different person at the desk when I arrived but she already knew who I was and what my reservations were. We had to wait until our rooms were ready and they had no problem guarding our luggage as we went out for breakfast and to pay the remainder of the bill with the card. The rooms were clean and spacious. The "two person" bed ended up being two twins pushed together, but there was no uncomfortable gap in the middle. It was like a California king sized bed with many down comforters on top. Sleeping on it was like sleeping on a cloud. Bathrooms were nice and clean and the water was nice and hot. Also they had no problem guarding our luggage once again the next day as we awaited the hours between checkout and the taxi to our flight. Every staff member was very friendly and helpful. The provided breakfast was quite good. The only drawback was the paper thin aspect of the walls. It was quite easy to hear everyone moving around in the hallways outside the rooms, but I sleep like a rock, so this wasn't much of a problem for me. The only side note I have to offer is that I did all of my negotiations and such in Spanish, so I can't comment as to the English skills of the employees. Overall an excellent experience. I'd definitely stay...
Read moreSo mixed views here. For the pos, great value for the price. Beds are comfortable and have plenty of blankets. There is a mini heater (!!!) attached to the wall that works very well. Hot water for the most part though not the morning I left. Also laundry is done on site for a very cheap price at 3 soles per kilo. Very nice front desk staff. Breakfast is included in the price and is not bad with coffee, tea, juice; bread; scrambled eggs or egg and cheese in a bread roll. Plus a side of fruit if you wish. Airy inner courtyard painted a sunny yellow sets a good vibe. ||Now the cons: That same airy courtyard is faced by all the rooms so if anyone talks there in the AM (as happens when people are leaving for early tours to treks and Machu Picchu) you’re screwed if you’re a light sleeper. Especially on the lower levels. There are “silence” signs in the courtyard but they are not even adhered to by the staff. All rooms only have very light curtains so make sure to pack an eye mask if you’re affected by light like I am. WiFi is really poor on the upper floors though- I was in room 306 at first and I really struggled. Also I had miscommunication with the staff at breakfast one AM and I heard her still talking about me with the staff in the front room. I know Spanish, idiot! So unprofessional. Finally, I had to get a receipt for my stay and for some reason this process took 10 hours, which makes me really doubt the staff’s mental abilities. ||So in the end would not be sure I would...
