We booked here for one night as we had an early flight leaving Lisbon the next morning. The choice was based on its central location and good price. Our room was a twin with a shared bathroom that had a balcony window overlooking the street which was just off the main square. The room itself was clean, comfortable and very pleasant. I had expected some noise from the below street but there was surprisingly little for a Saturday night in central Lisbon. The shared shower room was clean and everything worked well. There was also a communal kitchen which we were told we could use (I assume just for tea and coffee making) and the WiFi worked well. Reception is available 24 hours, staff I met were friendly and the front door has key code access so guests are never locked out.||The location is excellent. A two minute walk from Praça Rossio so excellent access to nearby restaurants, bars, shopping and sights. Also very easy access to Rossio station, metro station and the nearby taxi rank. ||Overall I was very happy with the guest house and I thought the value for money was excellent. There are more luxurious hotels in Lisbon but this place is very hard to beat for location and value while still offering style and good service. Next time I am in Lisbon this will be my first choice of...
Read moreWe booked this hotel for its location. And that was the only thing good about it. It is close to all the shopping/restaurants/squares. We checked in quite late, past midnight, and were given a room on the 4th (american 5th) floor. There are no elevators, so u need to lug ur luggage up 4 flights of narrow stairs. The room itself is more of a closet than a room. It had 2 twin beds which squeaked loudly. The pillows were flat as a pancake(see photo). 1 towel was given per guest and it was rougher than sandpaper. There is no ac and there is only 1 electric outlet in the room which is high up close to the ceiling. The wooden strip on the floor (see photo) kept coming off and tripping us. We asked for extra pillows and were given them on the 3rd day after my husband complained that he plans to write a bad review. When the night attendant left the pillow in our room, he didnt lock our room and we returned late in the night to an unlocked room. The safe is do tiny, anyone can run away with it and its contents. Someone had left an opened bottle of bath gel, and that was the only toiletrie we had. All in all a terrible stay. Dont go there if u have heavy luggage or cant climb 4-5...
Read moreAs the last reviewer stated I too would not recommend this place. Firstly, the photograph for this guesthouse on Tripadvisor is NOT of DownTown Guest House and it’s that photo that drew us in to book, very very misleading. There was no air conditioning! The second problem was no lift. The third, shower not working properly. Staff had to replace the shower head. The fourth was the hairdryer was so old it gave me such a shock when using that I threw it on the bed. We saw the sockets in the wall with loose wiring so that could be a fire hazard. The wine opener broke when trying to open the wine and the second one too. The kettle took a lifetime to boil. There was no air conditioning. There was no premium bedding as advertised especially with flat pillows. The outside noise on the street was very disturbing and the double glazing is insufficient. This place advertises laundry service but when I tried to use the washing machine I was told the machines are for the guesthouse. We were so unhappy that we left a day...
