DO NOT COME TO THIS HOTEL!!!! this is beyond disappointing. I have filed a formal complaint back on the 23rd of July 2025 which it’s not been acknowledged till this moment in time.
I am writing to submit a formal complaint regarding the unacceptable experience my family and I have had since checking into Maingate Lakeside Resort on 19th July 2025. We booked a 14-night holiday through Travel Republic from London, and what was supposed to be a special family getaway has turned into an extremely disappointing and distressing experience.
Unjustified Charges at Check-In
Upon our late arrival at approximately 10:00 PM, we were met by an unfriendly and unprofessional front desk staff member who lacked basic customer service skills. What shocked us most was being charged $380 in resort fees and an additional $50 deposit. According to our confirmed Travel Republic booking, we were only supposed to pay $222.46 in hotel fees. The difference of $158 was not mentioned during the booking process or communicated by either party. This feels misleading and unacceptable, and I am formally requesting a full refund of the $158 overcharge immediately.
Appalling Room Conditions
Once we entered our assigned room, we were horrified by the condition of the accommodation: • Stained yellow bedsheets • Carpets blood stains • Black mould on the walls • A filthy bathroom in unspeakable condition • Foul-smelling carpets • Non-functioning lamps and unsafe electrical outlets • Signs of bed bugs • No toilet paper or basic amenities
We reported the issue the following morning and were moved to a different room. However, the second room was in equally poor condition, with cigarette burn marks in the bathtub and a non-functional fridge. The issues were not isolated—they reflect a pattern of serious neglect and poor hygiene across the property.
Lack of Housekeeping and Service
As of today, our 5th day at the resort, no housekeeping has visited our room even once. We’ve received no cleaning, no fresh towels, no trash removal, and no replenishment of basic supplies like toilet paper. My wife has had to clean the bathroom herself and manage the trash, which is completely unacceptable for a paid hotel stay.
Request for Refund and Compensation
Given the unacceptable condition of the rooms, lack of basic services, and unjustified additional charges, I am requesting the following: • A full refund of the $158 in unexplained charges at check-in • Compensation for the severe inconvenience, distress, and poor quality of service experienced so far
Next Steps
I have copied both Travel Republic and Maingate Lakeside Resort management on this complaint to ensure transparency and prompt resolution. Travel Republic, as the booking provider, you are responsible for ensuring your listed accommodations meet expected standards and pricing transparency. You must take immediate action to address this matter with the hotel.
If this issue is not fully resolved within 72 hours, I will escalate the complaint to consumer protection authorities, leave detailed public reviews across all major platforms, and share our experience with other families to prevent similar disappointments.
We have spent a significant amount of money and planned this trip with care. The level of service and accommodation received so far has been far below what any customer should be...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE – This is the worst, most dangerous, and dirtiest hotel experience I’ve ever had.
Let me start by saying that this hotel is not just poorly managed—it’s a complete nightmare. On the very first night, someone tried to break into my room. I immediately tried to contact the front desk for help, but no one answered. I then called customer service, and even they couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Left with no choice, I had to call the police. When the officers arrived, they did nothing and simply left. I felt unsafe all night and had to push a dresser in front of the door to prevent anyone else from trying to get in. The lack of security and accountability is appalling.
As for the room itself? It’s an absolute health hazard. The carpet is disgusting, with stains that look like blood. The bathroom has no working light, and the mirror is covered in mold. The fridge under the TV doesn’t work at all—my food spoiled, and my ice cream melted into a complete mess. The Wi-Fi is so slow it’s practically unusable, and the room reeks of a combination of mildew and what I can only describe as a dead animal. I had to light a candle just to make it bearable.
The smell of marijuana is everywhere in this hotel. As soon as you open the door, the odor is overwhelming. It even seeps into the room, so there’s no escape. I can only imagine what the ventilation system is like to allow that level of permeation.
The bathtub had hair all over it, and the lamp in the room didn’t even work. The sofa was visibly filthy, with stains and grime that clearly haven’t been cleaned in years. The bed? It looked like housekeeping didn’t even bother to properly make it. The sheets were wrinkled and didn’t look clean. The walls were covered in mold, and there was dirt in every corner of the room.
I couldn’t even feel safe leaving my room to go to my car. The parking lot is poorly lit and feels extremely unsafe. I spent the entire night clutching a knife because I was terrified someone might try to break in again. And guess what? They did. On my last night, someone once again tried to open my door. To make things worse, they removed the scanner from my door handle and left it on the ground. How is this even acceptable?
Now let’s talk about the so-called breakfast. They charge an extra $14 per day for it, which is outrageous given what you get. There were two types of bread to toast, three kinds of cereal, room-temperature milk, some boiled eggs, and a few drinks. That’s it. I overheard multiple guests complaining about the lack of options like scrambled eggs or pancakes. For the price they charge, this is insulting.
The entire hotel feels like it hasn’t been maintained in years. The common areas are filthy, the carpets are stained throughout the building, and the staff is nonexistent when you need them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such negligence from a hotel.
This place is unsafe, unsanitary, and absolutely not worth the money—no matter how cheap it might seem. If you value your safety, health, and peace of mind, do not stay here. I would gladly pay double or triple elsewhere for a clean room, a responsive front desk, and the basic ability to sleep without fear.
KEEP OUT. THIS HOTEL IS A DANGER TO YOUR SAFETY AND HEALTH. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere, even if it costs more. You’ll thank yourself for avoiding this...
Read moreI have stayed here many times before because it's cheap and that's it. But honestly stay far away from this place! I recently stayed there about a week or so ago and had an altercation with one of their employees. I had a bucket sitting outside my door that I would sit on to have a smoke and my coffee. I had left it outside not thinking a bucket could cause harm. Went back outside later on and it was gone. Went to the office to see if maybe maintenance grabbed it or whatever. They had me fill out a form for my stolen property. The lady at the desk called maintenance to see if they grabbed my bucket and a guy said yes they had it. He said he would return it in a few minutes. I told the lady at the desk to tell him to please do not knock on the door because my 9 year old son was in there and I didn't want them to scare him. It would take a few minutes to walk back to the room and sure enough there's the guy banging on my door! He gives me back my bucket and I ask him why he didn't just knock on the door to tell me that I'm not aloud to have anything out outside. According to him they have rules there that nothing can be outside. There is absolutely nothing posted there or online stating that you cannot have anything outside. So what he did was theft. We exchanged words,I asked him again why he didn't just knock on the door and tell me what was going on. His reply was I didn't know the bucket belonged to you. I responded with it was sitting right next to the door,my vehicle was right in front of the door, the only vehicle there at the time,so how could you not know or actually just put some effort into trying. He was very nasty to me and and called me a nasty name. I then told him I was calling the police. I called the police, they came out to talk to me and then proceeded to go and talk to the front desk about the situation . I left a couple days later. I needed to a room again today for a few more days and reserved a room there. When I went there the lady at the front desk told me there was a complication abot my reservation. She then left to go to the office. Came back and told me that I was no longer aloud to stay there because there was a conflict of interest because I called the cops on the employee. The employee stole my property and treated me like I was trash! I went off a little bit on how that's not right. Then the manager came out and said she didn't like how I was talking to the lady and had called the cops to remove me from the property. So now I guess it's ok for employees to steal someone's property and she was violating my right of freedom of speech. This place is a joke, they are charging resort fees when this place is not a resort! There are bugs in the rooms, black mold and the smoke detectors aren't even working in most of the rooms I've stayed in! This place place needs to be shutdown ! I could go on and on about it! The owners don't care they just want your money! The funny thing about it is that all the times I've stayed there there was always new faces working at the front desk, kind of tells you something! This place needs to be shut down, the fire department needs to called in to check all the rooms for the detectors and the county needs to be called in for all the health code...
