To the other reviewer who has such tender little feelings about a sign (that was or was not there, I have no idea) - oh, boo hoo. It's a Christmas store! Lighten up!
We had a bit of "history fatigue" after two days touring the Gettysburg battlefields, so went meandering around on day three. Philip is a Christmas decorating nut (we've made road trips from Atlanta to Michigan, for pete's sake, to buy six-foot plastic reindeer) so I typed in "Christmas" and hit "near me" and this place popped up. Oh my! Glad we brought the Mastercard!
The Christmas Haus is one larger and two tiny buildings filled with Christmas goodies from Germany (exclusively). One building features ornaments and finials (we bought one of these, it is really lovely), another building of pyramid windmills (those little wooden things that you light tiny candles to make the blades spin) and then the main building with more and more and more ornaments, greeting cards, candles for the pyramids, incense, itty bitty carved figurines for Christmas tableaux, all manner of things.
This is nice stuff - not Garden Ridge/Home Depot stuff, and some of it is expensive - you can buy an ornament for $9 or you can buy a lovely set of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" hand-blown and -painted glass ones for $200.
They have the largest variety of Christmas pickles I've ever seen. I admit I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that I was impressed by a large array of Christmas pickles, but so it goes.
Friendly lady behind the counter, beautiful shop, unique items. Even more fun, perhaps, because it's in New Oxford, PA and not...
Read moreWent here hoping to get a gift for my husband. Very dissapointed that this place is not handicap or stroller friendly at all. The gifts are in multiple buildings that are very small with no room for strollers or wheel chairs which I had to find out the hard way. Once inside the main store where the staff was, no one asked if I needed help to find something. I guess they weren't interested in making a sale. It was obviously difficult navigating through the store, they carried on their conversation and neither came to kindly hold open the door, just watched me struggle. If you would like to visit Christmas Haus, please visit the Gettysburg location, where they are super friendly, helpful, and wheelchair/stoller accessible! I ended up purchasing from...
Read moreFabulous selection of specialty ornaments, smokers, tree toppers and other Christmas decor from all over the world. A magical place that will fill your heart with the remembrance of happy holidays past. Wide range of prices and the most pleasant customer service you can find. We go here every year to add unique pieces to our tree. The fun of finding and choosing from the 3 "ornament houses" on site is part of the memory made. There is handicap parking but inside access for a wheelchair would be challenging as the shop is very full of treasures. If you love ornaments and German-made items this is a "must visit" on your Gettysburg & Hanover area...
