Was in Gettysburg with my son. College season folks.. Any rate. He never had a PA Texas hot wiener. And I never ate at Ernies texas lunch so double win... So I thought.
While the whole place is very handicap unfriendly,, The food was in a word awful. I got the texas dog with with fixings, while the onions were fresh.. What ever they use as chili was or had to be rancid. But after asking our waitstaff who had the persona of Lurch, but with out the charm. I was told its made fresh everyday.. It seriously tasted like pan cooked Alpo which was left out in the sun for three day. Seriously, I had bad dogs. And this is clearly on my top 2.. That place in NJ might still hold the top spot. The bun was semi fresh.. But then , It could have been plywood for all I cared . I let my son taste it, just to see if I was being mean.. He told not to eat that bc he didnt want me to get sick.. the kid is 19, will eat anything... And he turned his nose up at this. JUST SAYING. Now , these dog would be great for test of courage.. But I would not suggest them. Now the chicken tenders.. Not much better, It like a white person said we need more season, and broke out only the salt shaker.
Now, The dinner has been around for 100 years, I think they bought the chili in bulk then and are still using it, And family owned. which in its self is amazing, that they been open that long. But prices are dinner cheap. And lunch time. It had a couple folks in it, So the regulars should be keeping this place alive. But if you are in Gettysburg, and want a hotdog.. I HIGHLY...

I ordered 2 cheeseburgers with everything, my wife and daughter egg sandwiches and fries with chili.. I ordered a sweet tea and the taste immediately turned me off, it tasted like dish water..LITERALLY! As I waited for our food I got up to look look at the framed photos on the walls of the founder Ernie and his family.. I about had a panic attack when u saw the dust, dirt and grease grime all caked on the picture frames and the visible dust on the ledge of the walls...clearly not wiped down for MONTHS! The benches of the seats in the booths were hard Formica with zero padding and the place is very drab inside! Our food came out and for $4.49 I got a slightly larger than a 1/2 dollar cheeseburger on a run of the miller supermarket roll with a ton of mustard a few diced onions a dry to the max chili sauce.. my pastry was medium rare, at best and the taste was very bland! The girls said their egg sandwiches were ok, but hell, anyone can make an egg sandwich... very dissatisfied and must be word around town as this was at 6:30 pm and NOBODY was there or came in the whole time we were there.. hmm... steer clear... ur better off eating at a McDonakds or Butger King... it’s...

Now as far as my review. Myself and family visited here this last Saturday, a trip to Gettysburg, we don't come here often, randomly selected for the most part based on reviews and foods available, first time visit.
First thing to note, are the prices are more in the $10-$15 range instead of the $1-10 rating that is on the listing, again, different restaurant now.
Overall, everyone reported that the food was good, we had burgers/fries, chicken tenderloins, eries dogs (retained from previous restaurant)
The drinks though were about half and half, one reported the sweet tea was not good, there was a dr. pepper that had odd carbonation and the lemonade felt like it was off though that could just be the brand they use.
When it came time to pay the bill, they charged $2 more for the chicken tenders than advertised on the menu, they gave us a discount and said they were in the process of updating pricing.
tldr: Food good, Drinks ok, Prices not terrible....
