We wanted to come here on Wednesday for my wife's birthday, but they are closed on Wednesday. So we came on a Thursday, arriving shortly after 6 pm. Pleasantly surprised that we got seated immediately and the host also got our beverages right away. Our server, Chelsea, arrived shortly after, getting our appetizer and main order; onion rings with "boom boom" sauce (like a mild spicy sriracha sauce), the All American burger for my wife and the Swiss mushroom burger (with add-on grilled onions) for me. She ordered the house fries (excellent) and I got the chips and coleslaw. I didn't really like the chips at all; they had little flavor and no salt, just thick sort of overly cooked potato chips. Cole slaw was quite tasty, but just a small portion. But my burger! Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had, charred lightly on the outside, dripping pink (done medium) on the inside, and so juicy! OMG! I added a bit of the extra boom boom sauce to both sides of the kaiser roll for a little extra kick. I wish I had taken pictures, but once I got it in my hands, it was hard to put down! Luckily my wife got a pic of part of hers. Chelsea was an excellent server, re-filling our drinks right away, coming over to see how we were doing, very nice. Highly recommend and hopefully we can come again ourselves (we're full-time traveller's, so we never know). Only 4 stars for atmosphere, because a very loud group sat behind us, and made it difficult to hear anyone else.
Update, July 17, 2025 We were back in the area, and made sure to come here again, this time on my wife's actual (70th) birthday. Our adult daughter joined us. We walked in around 6:40 and only waited a few minutes for seating. Our server Sam came and took drink and appetizer orders, and then after they arrived, took our dinner orders. She was an excellent server, both attentive and helpful. And again, like last year, probably the best hamburger I've ever eaten (Swiss 'n mushroom). My wife got the Whiskey Business burger, also excellent. We also got onion rings and a pretzel appetizer, both very good. Sam really made the experience better than last year, so I'm upgrading my...
Read moreSpent two nights in Gettysburg and ended up here both nights. Most of the other local restaurants we tried to go to, while their listed hours indicated they would be open fairly late, were closing their kitchens well before nine. We had our dog with us and had to find a dog friendly spot. Night one our server was Isaac - he was great and gave us a lot of good recommendations of things to do. Night two, we were turned away from a number of places because of kitchens closing early. We ended up at Gettysburger around 8:45 and the woman I spoke with informed me that the dog friendly patio was already closed - it closed earlier than it had the previous night due to live music inside the bar. Bless this woman, who I was later told was named Lisa - I asked if she could recommend anywhere for us to go with our dog, as it was our first wedding anniversary and we couldn't find anywhere to eat. She was SO kind and allowed us to sit outside in the (closing) patio space, and told us to take our time since it was a special night. We were served by Michaella, who was wonderful. Other staff members came out to greet our puppy, and all were very friendly. They had bowls of water for the dog. We are so so grateful to the staff at The Gettysburger Company for allowing us somewhere to eat on our anniversary! As a bonus, the food - we tried chicken, burgers, pretzels, cheese curds, and onions rings over the course of two meals - was delicious and the beer...
Read moreFood and experienced seemed great, until we paid for our meal and got lectured by our waiter about how to eat out with our baby.
My family and I chose to eat here based on a reference from a show called Scandal where many of the characters were referenced eating at The Gettysburger. We chose outdoor seating due to bringing our baby who can be a wiggle worm, drool, and occasionally make a scene screaming.
Personally, our food was great; came out within 10-15min, flavorful, and filling. The waiter seemed nice at first, until we finished signing the tip.
We were told to not have our baby on the table or to change them around other people. Understandable, if addressed at the beginning. The host, three other waiters, and the manager who walked by or address us neglected to tell us it was a problem to have our baby on the table, despite their facility not providing a high chair or booster seat. We were grossly informed to not change our baby at their outdoor seating, despite being told from another waiter it was ok, because they would have to clean the table. It turns out they had bathroom changing, though not one employee expressed a problem. The other waiters who walked by or "checked in" spent more time starring and glancing than addressing us.
I would not recommend bringing your family here. It is not kid-friendly, the waiter was judgmental and sneaky, and the overall experience left a bad taste...
