First, I found a brown bug in my bed on the top sheet, so we moved rooms. I don't know whether it was a bed bug or not.
Next was the really bad part...overnight several cars in the parking lot were broken into, and my friend's car was stolen - literally used as the getaway car according to the security camera footage. Something the receptionist said made it sound like something like this had happen before. The staff was not notifying people of the issue - we found out from fellow residents at breakfast.
What sealed the deal on this being a 1 star review was how the situation was handled afterward. The reception associate said their manager had approved a reduction in our rate due to our trouble but that the manager would need to be the one to make that take effect once he came into work. That didn't happen. Called back two days later: "this is the first time I'm hearing about this. I'll notify the manager once he comes in. I don't know why he's not at work yet" (several hours into his shift). Called back the next day: "oh, we can't do a reduction of your rate anymore. we'll give you some hotel points instead." Doesn't follow through giving me points. Called back the day after that and insisted on a credit back to my credit card, and the receptionist made it happen, thankfully. But, in summary, receptionist lied when he said only the manager could give me money back, and both staff members consistently failed to follow through on what they...
Read moreAfter 14 hours on the road, it did the job, but not much more. The clerk at the front desk wasn't rude, but wasn't particularly welcoming, either. I was a little concerned, as when we were checking in a group of men entered, each carrying a 12-pack of beer. I hoped they weren't staying near us and wouldn't be a problem (they were, it wasn't). The room was almost comically tiny- we had opted for a queen single, as it was just my wife and I. It was clean, with everything you'd expect, just crammed into a very small space. The bed was passably comfortable, but it sat on a flimsy metal frame that reminded my wife of a sleeper sofa, minus the sofa. Weirder still were the metal "skirts" that closed off under the bed. Every time I bumped it with my foot it gonged loudly. The bathroom had a full size tub, but it creaked ominously whenever you moved while showering. The worst, however, was the window shade. It was borderline useless, and all night long the room was bathed in the light from the neighboring Hampton Inn sign. I did manage to get a fair night's sleep with only a couple of outbursts from the revelers down the hall. The "full complimentary breakfast" turned out to be watery coffee, a small assortment of prepackaged danish, and yogurt. We came down an hour into breakfast and the chairs weren't even pulled down from the table. I'm guessing that not many guests felt the need to linger. For us, we hit the road and stopped...
Read moreHad a hard time finding hotel in Columbus as it was short notice and all weekend rock concert going on. We normally stay at a Choice hotel and finally found this one in Grove City. The hotel is undergoing a remodel and part of first floor is closed off and lots of construction material out front. I'm hoping that the couches in lobby are replaced as they are very old and worn. We had room 303 which was a newly remodeled room. The room itself was nice and fresh with new carpet, bedding and such but was very tiny. Queen size bed is the biggest you can get but was comfy and good pillows. Small closet area but no dresser so we had to use the single drawer in each nightstand. Flatscreen TV, small refrigerator, small microwave. Bathroom didn't have much counter space and shower was ok. The toilet seat was loose so I left a note to have it tightened and it was done when we got back that evening. Breakfast area was very narrow and you had to shuffle around people. Fried eggs were overdone and rubbery, think they should just use scrambled. Had a waffle machine, sausage, cereal, bagels, fruit, yogurt, small muffins, juice, coffee and tea. We opted to forgo breakfast twice out of four mornings. Service of pretty good. There are lots of restaurants and hotels in the area and close to freeway. For sleeping it was fine but don't think we would stay there again, just too small. For one night to sleep it...
