I am amazed this place has such good reviews. We booked this hotel almost a year in advance for a wedding over the holidays in December. I booked online using a discounted rate for our party for $523 including tax for a 4-night stay, and was immediately called and told that the rate online was lower than the one I would be charged as it only accounted for single occupancy. I had clicked "2 people" when I booked, so I found that suspect, and since the room was a 2-queen, double-occupancy is generally standard. At the end of it, they tacked on an additional $40 to the room.
Fast-forward to when I arrive and check in. Keeping in mind that my initial total (with double occupancy) was around $568 for 4 nights, they tried to charge me almost $850! That's almost $300 more, for those of you who are keeping track.
Luckily, I had the confirmation email on hand. The teller was very nice, but explained to me that the lowest rate she could charge me was around $601, despite having the total with tax in the email as $586. So I am now paying $80 extra from my original total. Okay.
The room itself was nice, if a bit dated. I thought the down pillows and blankets were a nice touch. The heater and mini-fridge groaned loudly all night long, and we were in the room below what sounded like a small herd of elephants. When the room to our right complained, the front desk told them it was a "private townhouse" and there was nothing they could do to assist. 3 days later, when I went to complain about the unceasing pounding of feet, moving of furniture, etc. they told me that the room was part of the hotel, and called up to ask them to be more quiet (worked for about 3 hours).
Then the front desk told me to "Request a room on the 2nd floor next time." Huh. So clearly they know it's a problem.
One of our party-members was in an upstairs room, and almost called the cops because the people in the room next to them had a screaming fight that escalated to domestic violence one night, and another the cops were called because someone was drunkenly pounding on multiple room doors in the early hours of the night.
To top off a truly strange stay, when I politely asked the front desk to arrange a taxi service to the train station in the morning for me, they gave me the business card of the local shuttle and told me to do it myself. The service just keeps getting better!
Given the choice, I would steer FAR clear of this place if you want to get a full-night's sleep, a fair rate, or even moderately...
Read moretl;dr incompetent staff that doesn't seem to care about the customer because they are always jam packed. If you have the option, stay elsewhere.
The rooms themselves were OK - three stars. Clean, comfy beds, working appliances, complimentary coffee, shampoo, and the usual. Nothing spectacular or above and beyond. The neighbor plumbing was extremely audible, as was foot traffic on ledge outside. The bed posts were bolted to the wall and made a loud squeaking sound when movement happened. The heater was set to 68 and still roasted us. All of this made it a little hard to sleep. The breakfast was a simple selection of pastries and some hot gravy. Free parking included.
The staff on the other hand earned brought this down to two stars. When we checked in, we were warned the door might not open all the time and we should test the keys. An hour later we found out the real problem with the door - we could not get out because a handle was missing from the inside. Apparently a rather confused member of maintenance tried to fix the door and did not put the handle back on the inside of the door. Naturally we complained, and were given an adjoining room. No sooner had we moved our stuff to the adjoining room than we got a call that said "actually we need that room. If the original room is fixed, please go back to it." Which we did, because what else were we to do?
The gross incompetence of the staff - between forgetting a door handle, then giving bad information on the room availability and having us move back, all without truly apologizing for the mistake or making any attempt to make restitution after the ridiculous set of mistakes, makes it hard to recommend this inn especially at $200/night. Unfortunately it seems unlikely they will suffer as this place is usually booked full. We found out that they "needed the room" back because someone had called "desperate" - which sounds more their problem than ours.
I can at least recommend to the hotel owners that they look for new, more competent staff. Ones who remember door handles and who make a greater effort to atone for such mistakes rather than sounding put off when they're told they need to re-make the beds in the new room they...
Read moreThe location is great. But everything else, unfortunately, means we won't be back. The walls are paper thin. You can hear everyone around you running their shower, talking.. I even heard someone open a trash bag and the crinkling of the plastic was so loud that it woke me up. The location of our room was especially unfortunate. 2nd floor right by the patio and stairs. From 7am onwards, you hear the CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK. CLUNK. of people dragging their wheeled luggage down each step on the staircase. Someone must have also decided to totally rearrange the patio furniture outside our room, because from 9am onwards, we heard SCRAAAAAAAAAAAAPE. SCRAPE. SCRAAAAAAPE. For probably 10 minutes straight. I understand the patio is there to be used, but we were not fond of our room being so close to this nexus of loud noises. The sink dripped ALL NIGHT from the moment we arrived. We could not find a way to stop it. The beds were supposed to be 2 queens, but we sleep on queen beds at home and these mattresses seemed smaller. I just wish they'd accurately list the size of the beds. We would've gladly paid more for a room with queen beds had we been given the option, rather than being mislead. The fact that so many people leave positive reviews makes me think we just ended up with the worst room in the place. We won't be back...
