We have been here several times on past visits to Leavenworth, but have never written about the experience. This trip we visited twice in a 2 hour period.... So you could say we like the place! I will get the negatives out of the way first. They are associated with Icicle Brewery and therefore only serve their beers. This brewery is not a favorite of ours and we do not even visit anymore because we are never happy with it. The second negative is that if you want to order food and drinks you have to go to 2 different lines and pay twice.... Just a little inconvenience that is seems could be solved to enhance the visit experience. The positives greatly outweigh the negatives here though. The open air village ambiance of this place is unbeatable. Yes it is cold if you do not get a table with a fireplace, but that is part of the experience. Bundle up and order a hot drink to warm you and enjoy the outdoor charm. If you do get a table with a table top fireplace it is a cozy spot to enjoy dinner and drinks. I already spoke to the negative about the beers.... But the positive for me is that they also serve hot spiced wine which I love! The Mr. drank the seasonal coffee amber and it was ok but still had the distinguishing flavor of Icicle that he doesn't like. If you like Icicle you will really love this place too. The food is amazingly good! Brats, hot dogs, and warm soft pretzels are the menu and you get to select from about 20 flavored mustards to top it off. So delicious and an inexpensive meal in an otherwise somewhat pricey tourist town. Will definitely continue to return on...
Read moreThere’s something about stepping into München Haus on a sunny afternoon in Leavenworth that just hits different. The long wooden tables under vines, the hum of conversations, cold drinks sweating in the heat—it’s got that Bavarian beer garden magic.
Ordering was quick. The cashier? Solid 4/5—straightforward and polite. But the highlight was the guy at the beer taps. I told him I’m not a beer guy, and instead of just pouring something random, he leaned in, asked what flavors I liked, and walked me through the options like it was his craft. The pint he suggested cost me $8, and while I’m still not a beer drinker, my girlfriend loved it—so credit where it’s due. That kind of effort? A clean 5/5.
Food-wise, I went for the giant kielbasa hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard, plus a side of German potato salad. Together with a lemonade, it came to about $20. The hot dog was the star—smoky, juicy, stacked with toppings—4.5 stars easy. The potato salad though… heavy on mayo, kind of flat. For me, that’s a 2.
But honestly, you don’t just come here for food. You come for the vibe: picnic tables packed with people, a wall of mustards lined up like trophies, families, bikers, tourists, locals—it’s all part of the show.
💡 Pro tip: grab a shaded seat, the midday sun hits hard. And if you’re unsure about beer, ask the bartender. Trust me, they take pride in getting it right.
So, let’s be real: it’s not cheap, but you’re not just paying for a hot dog and a pint—you’re paying for an experience. Final score: 4/5. Totally worth a stop when you’re in...
Read moreWe went there because we saw online that they have a vegan sausage option. They did, and it is a very popular place, often with a waiting line outside. But I was underwhelmed.
The bun I had was tasteless and insubstantial. (I suppose it's likely that if you order the veg brat, they give you a gluten-free bun.) My wife commented that the sauerkraut was likewise low on flavor. They did have an impressive array of mustards, so if that's your thing it would be fun. I wanted something like a salad or veg to go with the braut, but there is nothing like that on the menu. The only sides for a vegan are chili or chips.
The place is decorated in the Bavarian style of the town, and does have an upstairs area. Those are nice things. I didn't want beer with lunch, but it looked like they had a good selection.
The man who took our order seemed like he had done exactly what he must have done: taken thousands and thousands of virtually identical orders while standing behind a counter and trying to be polite to everyone, no matter what. He seemed tired and like he was really making an effort to just be there. I felt for him (a lot), but it didn't make for a great customer experience. The music was too loud for an old guy like me who was much more interested in having a conversation than in hearing German rock bands. All in all, it felt "touristy" on the just-slightly-over-the-edge side. I don't regret going, but I...
