🌊 Waking up to the sound of the waves + an ocean view on is my favorite vibe 🐚✨ šŸ“Sailor Jack’s Oceanfront Inn Newport, Oregon #hotelroom #oregoncoast #dreamyvibes

A Pleasant Surprise at Sailor Jack’s Oceanfront Inn As someone who typically stays loyal to Marriott properties, I was a little hesitant to stray from the familiar. But with no Marriott options in town, I booked a night at Sailor Jack’s Oceanfront Inn—and I’m genuinely glad I did. From the moment I opened the door to my room, I could tell this place had charm. The fireplace was already set up and ready to go, and the view of the Pacific Ocean was absolutely stunning. I’m not talking ā€œpeek-a-booā€ view through a parking lot—I’m talking waves crashing just steps from the building. You’re right on the beach here, and it feels like it. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and surprisingly well-appointed for a small independent hotel. A big TV made for a cozy movie night by the fire, and the addition of a bidet in the bathroom? Unexpectedly fancy. The free parking was a nice touch, and everything about the stay felt like it was priced fairly—especially for oceanfront property. But what really impressed me was the thoughtful staff. After I checked out, they actually called to let me know I had left an item behind in the room. That level of care and personal attention is rare, and it made a big impression. If you’re like me—loyal to the big brands but open to a local gem when needed—Sailor Jack’s might just surprise you. This place has heart, and that ocean view isn’t going to forget itself.

Absolutely perfect for us. Family of 3, 2 bed queen room.

Room: Plenty of space for us and our bags. REALLY CLEAN. I always do a cursory check before putting our stuff down. No crud in the corners, no hairs in the bathroom, no lint or fluff anywhere. Remote was very clean, no residue, etc. Window and ledge was clean on the inside and locked securely. There is a stopper so you can't fall out. TV was great! We had access to all the channels listed. There is a good guest directory too. Lots of menus. Fridge was really good and extra clean. Microwave worked well and was very clean too. Pleasant scent, not harsh or strong. My asthmatic husband had no complaints.

Beds: Fresh, well-made, no signs of bugs or stains or stray hairs. Clean pillows. Wrapped mattresses and pillows, which is a great extra step good motels make. Comfortable beds and linens. The metal riser can be loud if you run into it, but we only did that 3 times, it wasn't like you run into it every time you're close to the bed.

Bathroom:

Impressively clean!!

4 bath towels, 4 or 5 hand towels, and at least 4 wash clothes, there might have been 5. Towels were a little rough, but that just tells me they're bleached properly so I can't complain. Super clean shower curtain, nothing gross growing on the bottom. FANTASTIC water pressure, and several settings on the shower head. Water temp was good. There was a little standing water when we gave our kiddo a bath, but it was gone in about 5 minutes or so. Not too long at all. Toilet was super clean, flushed well. Plenty of paper. Really cool vanity mirror that lit up! Hair dryer and and outlet.

Property:

Some parts are being renovated, but if our room is any indication as to end result, it's worth it! There is easy access to the beach. (When they say beachfront, they mean it!) For a place that's battered with sea air, it's in good shape. Nothing gross or dangerous that I could see. Nothing broken or in bad repair. Doors were great, no need to insert a card and spend several minutes trying to get a strip to read; these just need to be tapped. Door felt very secure. Parking lot is small but we had no issues with finding a spot.

Staff/front desk:

Lobby was clean and pleasant. I believe it was Angie who checked us in. She was SUPER welcoming and helpful. We had a good conversation on check out too. Check in (booking.com)was fast. Angie also told us about a local "treasure hunt" they do for spring break, one we would have never known about if she hadn't mentioned it.

All in all 5/5 stars. I booked it sooo close to our trip that I just said "good or bad, we get what we get." Well, we got a good one! Family loved it. I'd happily...

Stayed here based on price and reviews for our 8 year anniversary. Horrible experience.

I'll start with the cons. They knocked on our door around 10am the 1 full day we were planning on enjoying our room and getting to sleep in. They said people would be working on our deck that day. No notice, other than a phone call/text 20min prior to the knock. We hadn't been on vacation in 4 years and just wanted to enjoy some peace and quiet. Our deck was unusable, so no morning coffee or ocean viewing. Just the sounds of power tools and voices. I complained to the front desk and they responded by saying "they tried to get ahold of us". I looked through my calls/texts, etc and the only notice we received was given that morning. I would not have stayed here otherwise. Other cons: the bed was horrible. The frame was made of metal and it sounded like thunder when we moved too much. Plus the mattress was hard and the sheets were scratchy. The comforter was cheap shower curtain material. Smaller cons, but notable: the Wifi didn't work until my tech-savvy husband worked some magic. Not user friendly for the average user. The TV is older (not a smart TV) and the channels were not user friendly. There are no counters in the bathroom (shower or sink), so it was hard to know where to put things. Also, (very minor), but the decorations were oddly placed, crooked, and misaligned. If you're OCD about this stuff, this will drive you crazy. The deck, even though we couldn't use it, shared a common space and people walked by constantly. Regardless of the construction, we had to keep our curtains shut for privacy. The stairs down to the beach are also not family or disability friendly. They are old and steep. Also, housekeeping knocked on our door despite having the "Do Not Disturb" sign up. Parking is also limited and the spaces are small.

Pros: The tub was nice, but note that the hot water comes out of the right side instead of the left. The bidet was fun to try. The decor "looks" nice, but once you look closer it feels very sloppily put together. The price compared to other spots is decent, but based on our experience I'd rather pay a bit more.

I would have loved an apology or some empathy from the front desk. I was met with rudeness and what came across as blame. I asked if there's anything they could do, like switching rooms, compensation, etc. Nothing. I would still like at least a partial refund.

Overall, we would not recommend this place for a romantic getaway, or for families. The only instance I could see this place being OK is for a quick overnight on business or something, where you don't care about staying in the room or...

This is the 4th time we have stayed. The 1st time was enjoyable. There were some small issues but the jacuzzi in the room made for a nice time. They were so nice they gave us a gift certificate to come back for our troubles. So we did we came back the next time stayed in the same room really enjoyed ourselves. The next visit the room we like was booked so we went with another room but were assured it was just as nice. That was a lie it wasn't. The was on the ground floor with a walkway coming right up to our room which would have been nice if it weren't for the trail of people constantly walking up to our window looking it. I rented a room with a jacuzzi and a view of the ocean and fully expected to be able to leave the curtain open during my bath, not have people looking into my room all day. That was a bust not to mention there being no hot water for my shower in the morning and the door to the room letting cold air in all night because it looked like someone kicked it open. Today we just checked out a day early after a miserable night. We rented that same room which we loved. This time we noticed there was a crack in the jacuzzi. It had been patched but was cracked through the patch. We let them know because I'm not going to use it knowing it has a crack and could possibly be leaking into the floor below. They said assured us they would have a fix for the second day and we would be compensated. The room was definitely diffrent then the 1st 2 times. It was missing the comfy chair we enjoyed sitting in while looking at the ocean. The futon for a couch was broken down and very uncomfortable to sit on. When I tried to call down using the room phone I had to hold the cord into it for it to work because they were still using a phone from the 80's. This was an improvement from the 1st stay when there wasn't a phone at all. We spent the night listening to the woman in the room over from us sing very loudly for hours. At the point that I attempted to call the office and the phone did not work. On top of all this anytime we used the bathroom and turned the fan ok it smelled like pot. We decided to leave early because this trip was a total bust. They offered to compensate us but decided not to when I asked to check out early. I paid $130 for a jacuzzi suite and I was not able to use it at all. Very unhappy paying for something we couldn't use. We won't be...
