They must get a lot of people who don’t understand what a sushi restaurant is, because upon walking in the woman said that they only had sushi and no “regular food”. Really great tuna poke bowl and eel sushi, flavors were on point and the rice was prepared perfectly. It was our first time, and the gal at the counter was nice and explained how the ordering worked (a laminated order form with dry erase pen, and a reference menu sheet). My only constructive feedback would be that the poke was not straight up tuna like I expected- there were noodles mixed to the tuna and sriracha sauce, but it was served with rice, seaweed, imitation crab, and what looked to be a cabbage salad which were all excellent. You are expected to pay before eating and bus your own table, which was fine. We were also given a pitcher of water and glasses, which was appreciated. We will...

*update 6 yrs later, yes the sushi is that good we have continued to come here but dropping a star. Very frustrated that it is walk up only since covid, when it is bad weather and nowhere to go, you end up eating in your car and sushi in the car is not good. Also about 50% of the time they aren't open. I call and call, no notices anywhere until you drive there and sometimes they have a hand written note on the door. Would it hurt to update your voicemail? They also will sell out of their supply and regularly close around 2 or 3pm they said. Very nice owners and still great sushi although too much crab salad filler.

Mom and pop owners are so nice and welcoming. The food was extremely fresh and the peppered tuna was to die for. We will be back for sure. We are sushi snobs and this passed the...

Easily the best sushi I've ever had. Considering I've lived up & down the Pacific coast, and in South Africa on the coast, that means this sushi connoisseur has tried some in every place.

Saying Yatai sushi is the best among its peers is a nice statement, and mostly true... the truth blasts even a 'good' review away.

There are NO words for how good it was.

In so many sushi restaurants there is too much filler like cucumber chunks or too much cream cheese, and too much mayo.

Here? Quality ingredients right out of the sea, and tasting just as glorious. No wasted ingredients, no fluff, and every combination is more than just food, or a tasty combination of flavors, its artful craftsmanship at it's best.

I walked away from supper feeling fortunate the owners decided to share...

To start, the atmosphere manages to settle between modern and comfortable. Menus and prices are presented clearly and, although their hours may seem unconventional to most, are explained as an effort to keep food fresh and clean. Although we took our food to go, the goal of Yatai seems to be to encourage people to walk with their sushi, considering the size of the restaurant. The sushi that we ordered was beautifully presented (again, in an unconventional but attractive way), and delicious to boot. The soft-shelled crab and row were excellent, and all the traditional sushi fair and accessories were present and accounted for. Now they just need to get a liquor license to start selling Asahi!

We visit the coast every 3 weeks. For the past month & 1/2 they have been on vacation so we were disappointed not to try their food. We finally made it yesterday, we had the regular Yatai sashimi + scallop roll + the super spider roll. Everything was absolutely delicious .. To go only. When they run out of fresh fish they will shut down. We told the young lady that we would be back on Sunday for lunch since they are only open for 3 hours, she said we will not be open as it is my mother’s birthday. I love it when a business takes charge of their products, schedules and puts personal issues ahead of everything else. Just love this place.

Why they don't have a full 5 stars yet is baffling. My Wife and I went to the coast to celebrate my 9th month of remission. I wanted the BEST sushi on the coast and good lord we found it. Probably the best in Oregon all together and definitely the best I've ever had. Straight up, no b/s, amazing sushi that was beautiful as well. The owners are amazing people that make it themselves and they just made us feel at home. We went both days we were on the coast and I'd drive 3.5 hours again, just for their sushi. I'm not kidding. Best. Sushi. Ever.
