Okay. So the wife and I spent three nights here. Not being familiar with the area, I wasn't so sure that it was a great place to be based on our arrival. However, after spending a few days here, it was centrally located. The best places to shop were definitely LINCOLN Ave (Maybe a half mile walk from the hotel), and the beach was just 2 blocks away. Supposedly some great shopping is a block away, but don't waste your time.........go to Lincoln Ave. The hotel offers free breakfast, but in actuality, they give you a coupon to go across the street to a very, very nice breakfast place. Great coffee and muffins. ||||The hotel room furnishings were dated, but this is an old building, with old furniture, no elevator, but only 2 or 3 floors. If you can carry your luggage, you're going to be fine. The staff was AWESOME. My wife and I loved the young gal who was there in the mornings and the awesome lady who cleaned our room. We were hugging both of them the day we left. I don't give this location a 5 star only because 5 star means all requirements are met. If you require an elevator and want to be pampered and spoiled........this isn't the place. But if you want to have wonderful people taking care of you, in a simple place, and a centrally located area, then this could be your place. We don't need to be spoiled. ||||We did enjoy the Viscay. Not a 5 star location, and probably not a 4 star location, but the price was great for that area, the people were wonderful, the breakfast was great, it was centrally located...............that means I'll give it 4 stars. ...
Read moreViscay hotel sits at the corner of Collins and 10th street and is one of the more utilitarian budding in the art deco district. It is (relatively) inexpensive and fairly basic because of that but is still clean and comfortable with friendly staff (thank you Luis for all of your helpful advice) and I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget who doesn’t mind being right in the thick of the hustle and bustle of South Beach. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and a good shower and bathroom and small kitchenette, ideal. Be aware there is no bar in the hotel and didn’t seem to offer a breakfast although this was mentioned on the blurb when we booked it. This was really no concern to us as we always breakfasted at a small family run bakers just around the corner, but just worth noting.||||With that in mind, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the area, it is extremely noisy until the small hours, especially at the weekend and if you are accommodated at the front of the hotel, offers little in the way of sound insulation. Being in our fifties, and first time visitors to Miami, this did catch us out and the first night was spent wondering if the whole of Collins Avenue was in our room with us. The farther up South you go the quieter it seems to get so we will probably aim for there next time.||||We found Miami fairly expensive so the only saved on the accommodation was a godsend, thank you The Viscay and I have no reservations about...
Read moreThe property was relatively quiet and calm. At times it felt empty but you would run into other guests leaving or returning. Stayed for three nights, only the first night was loud in terms of street partying. The other nights were more comfortable. The location is amazing. The check in process was relatively smooth. The phone in the room didn't work, to reach front desk or employee you'll have to call from cell phone. The front desk wasn't 24hour, but the property felt pretty secured.
My only issues were keys and occupancy. They issue hard/actual keys versus magnetic key cards. We had to actually lock our door, or make sure it locked each time we left. Because there's one key issued, the risk of losing it or not having a backup was something we had to be mindful of. Minor, not a terrible thing. Occupancy--we reserved two beds because three friends were traveling. Typically it isn't an issue in our domestic travels or there is a fee for an additional person. We weren't able to check in unless our friend, the third person, booked a separate room. We were told they had a strict occupancy limit of two people per room, even though the room had multiple beds. So that was definitely a huge inconvenience, especially since we arrived later in the evening.
Overall, it was an enjoyable stay. The bathroom was probably the best space visually, with classic subway tiles and almost antique finishes/fixtures. The rooms were relatively plain...
