My stay was HORRIBLE. Let me start by saying I called and spoke to Stephanie DIRECTLY from the hotels front desk 2 times before my arrival asking details about the hotel and what I needed to do prior to arriving. Well NOT ONE THING was mentioned about parking. You have to pay $25 to park I never heard of paying at a hotel to park. So then my next problem was at check in, it was never MENTIONED that I needed a down payment of $200! why is my down payment MORE than my room??? Okay so NOBODY at first was trying to help my family and I out. The hotel staff kept saying “no refund” we have to pay $200. Now this was for a birthday of my husbands and one of his wishes were to stay in a high rise hotel with a view. I explained that to them that all we had came there with was the money we were using there we didn’t have any extra for a deposit and I also explained to them that the best westerns where I’m from only take $25 for incidentals. Nobody was trying to work with me until my husband literally had to look the manager in his eyes and tell him honestly we DID NOT have that. So the GM ended up just taking $50 which I appreciated and thought was a very appropriate professional was of handling my problem with that. But again both of these problems were never mentioned on the phone. The whole time at check in when I was explaining to the managers I was not told about this stuff on the phone Stephanie continued to try to talk over me saying “I told her that” SHE NEVER EVEN MENTIONED IT. All she kept saying was that they get a lot of people from Canada and Maine when I was asking questions. THAT HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I WAS ASKING FOR MY FAMILY. Then after the manager solved our problem with the security deposit, then it was finally time to check in. Stephanie didn’t speak to me , didn’t look at me or anything. Just said “sign and initial” and pointed to the line. (HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE) so we get the keys and go to our room now I also had my infant daughter and her portable bed with us, we open the door and it’s literally the SMALLEST room (they have a map in every room of the floor plan) I also paid for a view STEPHANIE assigned us to a room when I opened my window ALL I seen was a brick wall. I PAID $45 extra just for CITY VIEW i also know she switched my room because I had previously called in the am like I was told to reserve a room on the high level and they had told me I was on the 9th floor, after arriving and checking in Stephanie tried to change it to the 8th floor. So the first room was super small then I went back down stairs to let them know I paid for a city view and she said “that is the view” I explained what my husband wanted with a view for his birthday and she put us in the room furthest away from the view (913) so when I said I didn’t pay for a brick wall to look at she tried to tell me that’s the whole buildings view. But the manager was also standing right next to her and was listening. He also told her to put us in (907) she tried to say that was already reserved so the manager printed out the in house list to see and sure enough room 907 was available so I go up and it’s a WAYY BETTER room (thank you mgt) the view was beautiful clear as day and was the best. My only problem is why was the front desk lady so disrespectful, not professional and just a overall hater. If I asked for a room with a view and I actually PAID for that then that’s what I should’ve got without all the hassle. So here comes check out day. I went to get a cart and locked myself out of my room , a housekeeper said “I can’t unlock it for you” BUT they sure enough can I used to work at best western. Then I had forgot my coat in the closet. Nobody even called to let me know I left something behind but anyways when I went to pick it up STEPHANIE AGAIN tried to say it wasn’t there THREE times then she looked in the lost and found sure enough it was there. But my coat was put on somebody because it was inside out. You...
Read moreWhere do I began? I guess the phrase “ false advertisement “ sums it up best. I will start with the door to the room did not lock. You had to use the double lock to make sure you were secure. Found this out the hard was when housekeeping just walked right in without using a key on the first day. Next is breakfast- but I use that work very loosely. They only serve food that fits the cultural needs of the owner. So if you’re looking for bacon, forget it. It’s all processed imitation meat. Absolutely no juice, water or milk. Only day old water and coffee. Stale muffins and bread. Eggs were “ there” but the night front desk clerk will tell you if you’re not there by 7:15 am, everything is picked over. They only serve from 7-9am. So in the pictures they show waffles, juice, fruit, danishes, etc. nope. None of that exists. We stayed one week because we were tricked by the website and paid a non-refundable rate or we would have left after day one. Housekeeping doesn’t clean the room- only on your request and they do a terrible job when the do. They left garbage, old standing water from the ice bucket and an empty toilet paper roll. Towels- if you want new towels off hours ( housekeepers arrive at 9am)you have wait about two hours for them to wash and dry more and then this sketchy looking gentleman will bring them to the room. They will not let you wait for them. Heat. These cheap (explicit) turn the heat off in the hallways. It was 30 degrees during our stay.
Ice. All three ice machines were broken and the owner said “ guess you won’t have ice today.” Delivery. They will not let anyone deliver food to the room such as door dash or Uber. They make them left it in the lobby. Both times I ordered, the seal was broken on my pizza box. I know that they will respond with some cliché message “ thank you for bringing this to our attention. It will help us in the future.” They are a bunch of liars and poorly ran by cheap owners who photoshop their pictures on the website to sell this place. It is in the middle of the hood. We would love a part of our money back for this stay but since they are rip off con artists they will not entertain that idea so they next best thing is to tell everyone who is even considering staying...
Read moreGreat budget hotel with easy and quick access into Manhattan. The hotel reception were really polite and answered all my inquiries. We arrived early so they managed to get housekeeping to clean a room for us asap so we could check in a couple hours earlier at no charge. When we left they held on to our bags for 4 hours after check out at a cost of $1 a bag.
Breakfast was not that good so we didn’t go more than once. While the breads, juices and fruits were good, the hot stuff was cold when we got to it. I think it’s just a matter of timing as the food trays are not heated so eggs, bacon and potatoes could cool down. However, if you were in a big group it’s a good way to save money.
The room was spacious. Bed was a bit soft for my liking but still comfy. There was a bit of a cool dampness but you can control heat inside which we used to make the air dryer. Only cleanliness issues we had was that there were hair trimmings (from shaving) from a previous guest around the sink counter and the sheets had markings (markers or pen). I suspect because they rushed to clean the room for our early check in, this was easily missed. The bathtub also could use some new grout as there appears to be some mold in the cracks but it wasn’t excessive. Water was always warm and pressure is sufficient.
Our room 511 had a small view of the nearby bridge and skyline and the neighbourhood was pretty quiet. One night guests were blaring their TV but it didn’t go past midnight so was okay.
In the end this hotel cost under $200USD a night and the location cannot be beat at that price. The neighborhood seems sketchy at first but in reality it was safe to come home at night and the subway was only 3 mins walk away. Also there’s a great Thai restaurant called the Buffs right around the corner.
I highly recommend this for a budget friendly option when visiting NYC.
