Response to owner (since I canāt add a reply to her comment): Iām pretty offended that instead of handling the situation properly for a customer thatās been coming to you for so many years you reply to my comment as āfake.ā You know Iām not a fake poster because you called my cell after this post, I assumed to make amends. I called you back twice, but kept missing you during your lunch. Giving up trying to get in touch and instead trying to discount an honest review as fake is a really shady practice. Best of luck to you; I wish your other customers a better experience than I most recently had with your business.
Updated review 10/3/22:
Iāve been coming here for 6 years. Olga is the best. She runs a no-nonsense shop with the best keratin Iāve gotten anywhere so I keep coming back. Until now.
I had the first appt of the day scheduled for 10a. I arrived ten minutes early to make sure the stylist had plenty of time to do my keratin before I had to leave at 12:15 to make my flight. The process takes 90 min, at most two hours so I should have been fine. I sit down and put my backpack on the floor. Itās filthy even though Iām the first customer of the day. Itās like no one has swept up the hair in days and clumps are sticking to my bag. Fine.
Iām waiting for the stylist for ten minutes before she informs me that there is a new pricing policy done via QR code. Ok. I scan the code and go through the survey and the new up charges are wild. I used to use the $99 vouchers, it went up to a base price of $115, no big deal. There used to be a $20 up charge for medium hair, which Iāve been fine paying, no problem. But today, even though my hair is the same length itās always been, the up charge is $50, so the $115 keratin now costs $165. Thatās crazy since my hair is barely below my shoulders.
So I found a voucher on Living Social (Groupon) and ask if I can use that. Itās for $92.80 and I could buy it on the spot. They say no, itās for first time customers only even though it doesnāt say that anywhere on the voucher.
So now itās 10:20 am. I say fine, Iām only in town every few months, so letās just do it. Iāll pay the ridiculous new up charge. I ask, the process takes 1.5 - 2 hours, right? I just want to make sure I can be at the airport by 1p. The stylist says she doesnāt think she can do the keratin in two hours, so I should just come back another time.
This is the worst experience Iāve had here and Iām so disappointed given how itās always been so friendly and easy. Historically theyāve done a great job, but the sticker shock is a bit more than I could handle today for a stylist I wasnāt even sure I had confidence in.
Original review Sept 2020:
Canāt beat the prices or the service. I tried every keratin out there and havenāt looked back since finding Hair Bar on 3rd ave. Iāve requested specific stylists in the past, but it doesnāt really matter, any one you get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI spoke to two people at hair bar at 3rd ave as well as went in for a consultation and paid for the silk touch express treatment. I have 3B type hair and wanted to reduce frizz for the summer I was told repeatedly my hair will remain curly but the frizz will be reduced and at most my curl will slightly loosen so I proceeded with the treatment. After washing my hair, it was left completely straight which I was extremely upset about because that is not what I paid for or was told would happen. I called them and told them this they told me that should not have been the case so they asked me to come back to do a clarifying shampoo I did and had to do it twice to break up the treatment. It did nothing besides make my scalp peel the next few days. My hair is 90-95% straight with some loose waves in the back and under the top of my hair. I spoke to several people again, the front desk, customer service on the phone and Leticia the manager she did not take an accountability for this and told me she would call me back the next day after talking to the stylist. She never called me back I called back twice more and was promised she would call me back right away never did. I called again today to tell them this and they said she will call me back. Instead, I get a text message 5 minutes later saying they do not do refunds and to wait it out and that my natural hair would come back eventually. This is unacceptable and cowardly that they do not have the decency to call me back and are dismissing my concerns. I was even charged an extra $30 since they said my hair was thick (which it is not, it is just curly). They refuse to help me or even talk to me. I will NEVER come here again they are unprofessional and did not even apologize for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a terrible experience 4 weeks ago which Iām still not fully recovered from. I had the silk touch keratin treatment and the results were terrible. I had serious damage and breakage to my hair and the color completely stripped. This isnāt my first time doing keratin and Iāve never had a problem. In fact I had done the 24k at hair bar years ago and it was fine too. This time however the results are awful and it doesnāt even look like I had a keratin treatment. My hair is frizzy and damaged and I wasted $200. I went back after I got the treatment because I could already see the damage when I got home. Lucy the manager didnāt seem concerned in fact she kept trying to tell me it was normal that my hair suddenly was so damaged and that all the small hair from the breakage was sticking up like I had been electrocuted. She took no responsibility and the product hasnāt even worked!! Is it the product, the application/staff or both?!! Either way Iāve tried calling several times and get the message that no one is available to answer and then the line disconnects. Someone needs to teach these guys how to run a business and if you stand behind your products and services make sure they work or at least take responsibility and think about the customer experience. Iām still livid, frustrated and applying heat to my hair everyday to remove the frizz....
