I advise not to book this hotel if you can help it. My parents and I were in SL for a conference and the Marriot was already full when I tried to reserve. This hotel had vacancy and was conveniently close to the Salt Palace, here the conference was being held.||But staying at this hotel is the greatest regret of all the traveling I've done in my life, which has been considerable. Room is not bad, if a little dark and outdated. Sofa beds are usually uncomfortable, but this one was the worst I've ever slept on, which is one of the reasons why we checked out one day earlier. I was surprised and grateful when they said they would only charge me for the two nights we stayed... if only I knew.||So we checked out around lunch time and drove about an hour to stay with family. However, we made the grave mistake of forgetting valuables in the room safe, and only remembered later in the evening. I called the hotel as soon as we realized it, and they told me that indeed housekeeping had put in a notice that the safe was locked, but that housekeeping could not access the safe, and maintenance would only open it the following morning. I then asked them not to open it until I arrived next morning, and the receptionist assured me they would leave a note to wait for me to return the next morning to collect my things.||When I arrived at 10:00, the safe had been opened by maintenance and they said it was empty. I saw the note the receptionist who talked to me wrote, and it only said I had forgotten things, but no note not to open it.||We called the police, but they could not do anything. The hotel said they had to protect their employees, the police said they could look at the security cameras (which were nonexistent in the guest room's corridors, to protect the guests privacy) not question the housekeepers who had cleaned the room, and simply had to believe that we left a locked EMPTY safe behind. I realize it was careless of us to forget valuables, and I wish I had driven back to the hotel that very evening. After all, in the end it was our word against theirs, and the police could not do anything. If maintenance hadn't opened it and waited for us to arrive instead, we'd have known if our code was still working, or if someone had opened and closed it back up. But we will never know.||And that's why I would not risk staying at this hotel, if you can help it. And I will never stay in a Best Western, WorldHotel, or SureStay ever again, anywhere...

Read moreOriginally I wasn't going to leave a review. However after what I heard today I decided travelers need to be aware of the shape of the hotel and the clerk.
I had been in Salt Lake on a business trip. Since I wanted to take advantage of the Family History library after my meetings, I chose this hotel. I had a later flight today so I needed to kill some time. I checked out of my room and sat in the lobby. The hotel clerk was talking to some guy (sounded like he knew him well, so maybe another employee?) Each guest who requested an early check in was told there were no rooms available. Having checked out of my room and being at the end of the hallway I had seen the cleaning staff had finished all the rooms up to mine on my floor, and were ready to start mine when I left.
The reason for this review is the clerk told this other person he wasn't going to let anyone check in before check in time at 3pm. He said 'not my circus, not my monkeys'. He said 'they can wait until 3pm'. I assume that was after his shift since he didn't want to do the work. I heard that three times in the hour I waited in the lobby.
That wasn't the worst part. There were two older ladies sitting between me and this clerk. He proceeded to tell this guy about his 'native' girl he had relations with (his word) and how insane it was. He clarified 'Native American'. No Guest wants to hear about your sex life or you talking about this girl. This girl should run now!
Maybe he should spend his time actually working and taking care of customers.
In addition to sex fiend clerk, the hotel is in need of a remodel. The bathroom shower grout is cracked and moldy all over. When you turn on the shower, the pipes rattle and make a bunch of noise. Other than that the room was in decent shape and clean. The cleaning staff does a good job.
After that clerk, I won't be staying there again. There are other nicer hotels that actually take care of the guests and we don't have to listen to their...
