Me and My girlfriend were in SLC for a couple days staying halfway to Oregon on a roadtrip and we decided to try out Nacho Daddy for lunch.
When we got there it seemed like a nice spot to eat and since we both like nachos we figured it would be a great choice. Upon looking through the menu we kind of realized that we weren’t as hungry as we thought to split a 20+ dollar plate of nachos considering the portions we were seeing being served to other customers.
We had Chanelle as our server. She was very nice while getting us our waters and making small talk at the table. We both decided to just get some chips and queso to share. When Chanelle came back to the table we told her we were looking to snack on some Queso. Her entire demeanor changed and she started being kind of pushy about what “actual food” we were gonna get. After we confirmed a second time we just wanted queso she looked pissed and walked away.
We both looked at each other asking “is she mad about us just ordering queso or are we crazy”. When she came back with our queso she just dropped it on the table pretty hard not saying anything and walking away. That’s when we realized wow she really is upset. Over the time of us sitting there in disbelief eating our queso we watched her go to other tables and be very friendly and chatty, meanwhile she would come over and be super short which was pretty rude.
Also while we were eating she was alone manning the bar for a little and we overheard her openly bad mouthing another customer to another waitress for pretty much the same thing. Hey I get it I’m sure it’s annoying when you make your money off tips and somebody comes in, orders one thing and doesn’t leave a tip. But go talk shit about me in the back room so others don’t hear it ESPECIALLY when you are visibly upset that I decided to not eat a massive plate of nachos.
Overall I’m sure this place isn’t horrible but that sort of entitlement that makes you feel you can be visibly upset and annoyed that somebody isn’t going to give you a massive tip for two expensive plates of nachos is crazy. I even kind of changed my mind on maybe getting some nachos but she made me just wanna get the hell out of there. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring myself to tip her horribly because I seem incapable of doing that morally, but if I had less respect for service workers, Chanelle wouldn’t have gotten a penny from me. Not ever planning on coming back there just because of that experience and wouldn’t recommend that...
Read moreShort Version: The staff(Victoria) was super nice. I didn't spend time at the actual place because I ordered out. The food taste wasn't delicious and the portions were much smaller than anticipated.
Long Version: I found this place today on Yelp because it was highly rated for shrimp tacos and my regular place doesn't do those. Plus I like finding new local gems. I saw that they had lobster tacos and really wanted those, but apparently they changed the menu two weeks ago and those are gone. I'm not sure what the quality of the menu was before the change because this was my first time, and maybe they're still adjusting to the change, but I'm not going to be a repeat customer so up the review goes.
Staff was super nice! I spoke to Victoria on the phone and she made it super easy to place an order. I ordered out. The place was a bar and was pretty quiet when I checked out. Everything was very clean. They had me in and out in under two minutes. I was very impressed when I first got the food that it was piping hot.
Got home and unboxed everything and was surprised that the portions seemed a lot smaller than I expected for the $20 price. I'm a 3+ a month regular at Don Joaquin's tacos around the corner and $13 dollars there for 3 street tacos usually fills me up. From Nacho, I got the shrimp tacos. They were a bit bigger than normal street tacos... maybe 8 inches across instead of 6. There were 9 shrimp total (easy enough to count) and then cabbage and mango to put on top and an avocado spread and a ranch spread. I've been trying to put my finger on why it didn't taste good and I'm wondering if it was too much cabbage not enough shrimp or something else in the mix, but I didn't fancy the taste too much.
I was still hungry after I finished everything. Scraped all the cabbage and mango off the leaf it was packaged on and ate it. I thought maybe I needed to just wait a moment for my stomach to register that I'd eaten, but after an hour of still being hungry, I went and got pizza. I'm not a bottomless pit of an eater... this just wasn't very much.
Anyway, if you love it, good for you, but It's not my cup of tea. $20 to still be hungry isn't...
Read moreAs a nacho aficionado, I was extremely excited to find a restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City that was all about the nacho! There were multiple families and groups here with expansive seating, including small tables for couples. Their kid quesadillas were nicely grilled, cheesey and delicious and there was an option to add chicken for an extra $3 which we did. We also ordered a side of black beans and chicken to accompany the kids nachos as they were simply melted cheese over tortilla chips. Of course I ordered chicken nachos and as you can see from the picture they were massive! My dining companion ordered the serveche which came with a nice basket of homemade tortilla chips. However, the portion was quite small compared to the price and it tasted ok, but was not well seasoned. The nachos on the other hand were completely amazing! Piping hot, well seasoned, and a very generous portion of chicken amongst all the vegetables, beans, and cheese. The service was very slow, I had to ask for a menu, and once we got our food we were completely neglected. We did not get water refills or asked if we wanted anything else or offered dessert. A different person brought us extra ranch when we requested it. Our server was very nice, when he was around. I noticed him behind the bar a few times and wondered if he was pulling double duty as a waiter and bartender? At one point we asked the chef, who was going around from table to table to see how the patrons liked his food, to get us to-go boxes and he complied. I believe that this restaurant is suffering from the same dilemma as the rest of the country, nobody wants to work and so there were not enough staff to take care of their customers. The restrooms were very clean and located in the building next door. The big windows looking out onto the street, and the eclectic decor made for a relaxing, fun place to eat. The grandkids enjoyed the continuously running music videos playing on the multiple, big screens. The next time we are in Salt Lake City, we will most likely eat here again because the nachos...
