My wife and I have drive through Zion several times, and we've always wanted to take some time and actually stay there--especially in winter (we love the cold and the snow!). So we decided to spend a few days there between Christmas and New Years 2023. after some research we chose the Red Rock Inn--and it was one of the best travel decisions we ever made!! The Inn is actually a small group of "cottages" nestled back off of the main road through Springdale. We got one of the cottages in the back (Emerald Pools) and just loved it! Here's what made our stay there so memorable and comfortable!
Sharon is such a WONDERFUL HOST!! Friendly very responsive and although these cottages are separate from the main building, it actually fells like she is welcoming you to her home!
The cottages are connected in pairs, but even though there is a shared bathroom wall, the attached cottaged are built on slightly different elevations (about 4' difference in elevation) so there is NO DIRECT NOISE BETWEEN THEM!! THIS IS QUIETEST PLACE WE HAVE EVER STAYED IN!!
The inn is strategically placed in the southern half of town--one and a half blocks from one of the city's southbound tram stops and one block from one of the tram's northbound stops. (If you aren't familiar, Springdale has a free city tram system that covers the length of the town. The last stop on the northbound line is the entrance to the park itself--where you can catch the Park bus that takes you up to the canyon. Once you're in the town, you never have to use your car to get anywhere!! In the winter when we were there, the tram came by about 15-20 minutes.)
The inn is extremely well-situated for walking to whatever you need. We were a block away from a wonderful restaurant--Oscar's--where we ate each morning and had a wonderful dinner as well. But there are at least 5-6 more restaurants within about 3-4 blocks. There is also a wonderful (and rather full-sized) grocery literally across the street. Of course many local art shops are within walking distance as well.
Our room, Emerald Pools, was EXACTLY how it looks in the pictures. It was wonderfully decorated, very clean, and with high ceilings that made it feel large and inviting.
But the highlight of the trip was spending the late afternoons sitting by the hot tub--located at the top of a short trail behind the cottages. We were lucky enough to find this spot the first day we were there, and we made sure that at the end of each day, we ended up there to watch the setting sun flame against the rock towers of Zion across the valley from the inn. Zion has always taken our breath away, but at the end of the afternoon, it is more than magical (we added a couple of the MANY pictures we took just from that space behind our cottage).
We cannot express enough both our gratitude to Sharon and our joy at spending this time in Springdale. We will be returning as...
Read moreThe location and daily visitors are AWESOME! The deer alone were worth it! ||However, it ends there. Room was not clean, television didn't work, ice machine didn't work, toilet and tub (have video but can't upload) are not set so they bang loudly when you get in or out and sit down, A/C wall unit kinda worked but was very loud. When I tried to request a room change due to the television, two things happened. The first was the tall young lady at the front could have cared less. She asked me, "well, is it something you need?" Yes, I need it or I wouldn't have asked. I have pretty relentless anxiety when I travel and oddly enough the television helps me relax (something I never have to use at home). Do I wish I didn't need such a bananas thing, yes! Is it my reality when I travel? Yes, to that too. So, I was a little frustrated that she didn't care one fraction of a bit. ||The second thing was we were out visiting the park only to race back to reach them before they left early at 3:00 p.m. The posted hours were until 5:00, I believe, but they were gone by the time we got there at 3:30, so we weren't able to move and another night without rest. ||At any rate, I would not recommend this inn as there are other really cute places outside of the park to stay. I will say Maylynn (the young woman there our first night) was a sweetheart. We ended up cutting our stay short due to an urgent situation with our house sitter and, of course, zero refund or partial refund. They are certainly in it for the money, but it wasn't worth the price tag and all of the amenities should be in working order if you're not going to be reasonable/flexible with the price. Thank you...
Read moreThe hits: | 1. The view from the hot tub!| 2. A super comfy mattress| 3. Bathrobes, Keurig machine, and bottled water in the fridge| 4. The substantial breakfast at Oscars||The misses:| 1. The day of our arrival we received an email that the office would be closed on Memorial Day and that we would need to self check in. No problem (I thought), have done that before at other properties. Unfortunately, our unit was locked so we had to call and the maintenance person was dispatched to let us in.All told, about a 20 minute delay to our check in which was unwelcome after a long day on the road and a wife that really had to go. I guess what sealed the unfortunate deal was there was never an apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. I get that the maintenance person is probably a contractor and has no skin in the game but she barely acknowledged me when unlocking the door.| 2. We were really looking forward to the hot tub (which as I said has killer views!) but it was set to 109 degrees, which is way too hot for comfortable (even safe) soaking. I went in for only a few minutes but it was too hot for my wife. That was disappointing as we were quite looking forward to the soak after our long day on the road.|3. Our unit (#5) is beside the office and the exterior light of the office is right outside the window above the bed. Even with the blinds closed, the room was not dark and was dimly lit from the light outside the window. ||While Red Rock Inn is a nice property and close to amenities in town, but given the misses we experienced I can't say that it was worth the price that we paid. I'm up in the air if I'd be willing to give it...
