I would give this lodging 3.5 stars. We booked one night but when we arrived we planned to stay a second night. Fortunately for us they had space and we were easily to stay a second night. We were there December 27-29, 2022 and there were a lot of tourists in the area between Christmas and New Years. The location was super convenient to accessing Zion National Park, which is why we were there. Our room was clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. For some reason we were given the room which is meant for handicapped people. For that reason we had a large bathroom with zero clearance stepping into the shower, no tub, which did not bother us. The sink area was small, with very little counter space, we made it work. The towels were rough, and medium thickness but there were extras. There is a little sink and counter outside of the bathroom which was nice for filling up water bottles. Also a small fridge and microwave. We don't drink coffee but when we arrived the coffee pot was turned on with no water in it. It's good that we noticed and turned it off. Free Breakfast was a grab and go bag with a little pre packaged breakfast burrito that we heated up in our room and a lunch sized apple, mine had a bad spot. We never took advantage of the hot tub, if it was working. Another guest was looking for it, in the cold in her swimwear. We knew the pool was closed that time of year. The biggest problem and reason for 3 1/2 stars is the loud, noisy room heater. Since we were there in winter and it was unseasonably cold during that time, we wanted the heater running at least a little bit at night even though it made a racket. We put up with it because we slept hard after travel and hiking. When we came back the second day from another good day of hiking, cold and ready to relax, our room was clean and tidy but the heater would not turn on. We called the front desk, she told us to look for a portable heater in the wardrobe, no apology, it was like she knew what was going on. No portable heater was in the wardrobe. I called her back. She simply said, you can stay in that room or you can move across the parking lot. Well, we didn't want to be cold so we moved. Once again, no apology, nor did they offer to help us move. It's okay, we are healthy and capable, it just would have been courteous if she offered. The second room was just fine, we went from one queen bed to 2 queen beds. The bathroom was smaller but had a tub and there was more counter space outside of the bathroom where we got ready for bed. The bed and pillows in the second room was also comfortable. The room heater worked perfectly and was not nearly as noisy as the previous room. By the way, my husband fixed the curtains in both rooms which were not all the way connected to the top rod and were hanging oddly. It was to our benefit, it allowed less light in. When we were packed up and ready to leave I checked out and let the person at the front desk know we were checking out and that we would like to receive a small discount for the inconveniences we experienced. She said she would let her manager know. No apology. We've never received any discount for our inconveniences. We did enjoy Zion and were happy with the location. (FYI we ate at Porters, good food, good service. We also ate at Thai Sapa, which had wonderful soup which made me happy after a day of hiking in cold and snow. They were courteous and quick despite being super busy. I think they opened for the holiday break because business was good. Not all restaurants were open the last week of December in Springdale.). The one photo I've included is taken from the parking lot on the first morning of our stay. I'm sure the views are stunning, we had low clouds all morning. It looked like construction was going on in the building next to Zion Pioneer Lodge, we never saw workers but that doesn't mean they weren't there since...
Read moreOne star for the nice view of the park from the room & the front desk staff being friendly & accommodating & also because google reviews doesn't allow zero stars. Definitely pay attention to the recent reviewers stating that this hotel needs some serious updates & better housekeeping practices - they are 100% true!
My dad and I checked in here on 4/4 & left that same night for a hotel an hour away as the room was just that bad. A last minute room change (per my dad's request during check-in) from second to first floor, left us waiting for the housekeeper to "freshen up" our room before we could settle in, which is understandable, but after we started to move our belongings in, it didn't really appear as if there had been much cleaning done. Some items to note about the quality & cleanliness of the room:
-Floors were incredibly dirty & only the main walkways appeared to have been mopped or wiped. There were bobby pins underneath the nightstand & scrunchies behind the headboard even after the housekeeper "cleaned". -Stains and/or spills on the walls directly behind the nightstand & walls behind the bed. -Bathroom mirror was cracked in half & the wall-mount for the hairdryer was broken so that it hung loosely off the wall. -Top sheet & duvet on one of the beds was dirty and had brownish-red marks on it. This was brought to the attention of the front desk staff shortly after noticing it & she came down with a new, fresh bedding set which she changed out immediately, however. -Broken glass pieces on the floor in some corners as well as a dead cockroach in the middle of the main walkway. -Toilet did not flush properly, but this wasn't noted by my dad until shortly before we checked out. It appeared as if a bar of soap was stuck in the bottom of the bowl after flushing, but it wasn't certain if this was intentionally left for cleaning purposes or not.
With the exception of the dead cockroach, some of these issues wouldn't bother me that much under normal circumstances. The staff did her best to remedy the one issue that was brought to her attention, but we honestly did not stay long enough to find out if there were any other positive aspects of this hotel.
*Signs of bedbugs: Because of the general dirtiness, I combed over the room some more & was horrified to find some definite signs of bedbugs in cracks in the pine headboard/bed posts (e.g. eggs, fecal spots, molted skins). I was truly in shock after seeing the fecal spots & eggs at first & had such a hard time believing it until I managed to pull a shed skin from the same cracks in the wood as the eggs. Both beds showed the same signs on their posts/headboards as they both had a pine wood appearance & the bed post wood was cracked in several places. **Note: Several very reputable webpages from both the EPA & various university entomology departments can assist with identifying some of their telltale signs even without the presence of live bugs.
At this point, it felt impossible to stay even one night and feel comfortable about sleeping. I have never felt so conflicted about complaining about the state of a room, but the possibility of discovering a live bedbug was just too much to handle so my dad & I packed up & left this nightmare of a room around 8pm that night. Front desk staff let us stay as long as we needed to pack & find new lodging after refunding the money for the other nights we had booked. She stated that the manager would look into the bedbug concern & contact my dad if more information was needed, but that she was unable to refund the first night without them - understandable. He stated that he isn't anticipating hearing anything from the hotel about this issue though. Ultimately glad we moved on.
TL;DR: Pros - nice front desk staff, proximity to Zion. Cons - price for outdated dirty...
Read moreThis place was absolutely horrible. We booked our rooms online. We had stayed in the watchmen’s campground the night before. We had five adults with us and we had been in an RV for six days. We booked two separate rooms online they stated they allowed pets. When we got there, I noticed that three force of the property was under construction. We pulled up in the RV and we were immediately met by a gentleman telling us we could not park our RV there. We stated we just booked two rooms with you guys. He still tried to convince us to move our RV to another parking lot so he could navigate The contractors for the construction. We told him absolutely not. When we were checking in he stated they did not allow pets. My daughter that is 27 years old that had brought her dog. So my daughter had to sleep in the RV in a parking lot in a strange city with her dog. I hurt myself on the bed and asked my husband to call down and ask where the ice machine is. Well guess what there was no Telephone in the rooms. My husband walked down to the front desk and he was told there was no ice machine on property. There was also no coffee maker in the rooms no lamps with chargers to charge your phone. There were absolutely no amenities in these rooms. We absolutely did not get what we paid for. I noticed other guests with pets. I believe they probably had 10 rooms open to book. I noticed three other guests with dogs . I confronted the gentleman that checked us into our room and asked how they were allowed to have pets and my daughter had to sleep in an RV all night with her dog? He stated it was because they came in so late. I told him that I would like a reimbursement for the room and he stated I would need to dispute it with my bank. He also informed me that he is not the manager that there was no manager on property that he was just in charge of all the contractors for the re-model. I would’ve absolutely gotten another room at a different hotel even though they already had my money, but I had other people that I needed to be concerned with. Everyone was very tired. We had just traveled seven states in eight days by the completion of our trip. Again, we had already booked our rooms online because the campground was way too hot. I am going to promise myself that I will do better in reading reviews before I book a room. Their phone number was disconnected that should’ve been my First clue that this was going to be a...
