Day 1 of our 2-week southern Utah vacation to bike in "The Big 5" was off to a great start right up until I had a flat over 6 miles in to Zion. My wife, and the other couple we were with, had gone ahead of me while I was setting up a new GoPro. I had no cell service so I couldn't let them know what was going on. I was on my full-suspension e-bike and found out that the shuttle busses, don't allow e-bikes on their bike racks. Before the trip I installed Tannus Armour in all of our tires to lessen the chance of having flats! I had a pump, air-cylinder, and flat repair kit with me; but the Tannus Armour was VERY difficult to install in my tires. I aired the tire back up to see if I could get a little distance back to town, and it was flat again in about 90 seconds! Time to start walking! As soon as I got some bars on my cell phone, I sent a message to my wife that I was heading back to town, and for them to continue having fun without me. I also did a quick search for a full service bike shop. I'm SO glad that Zion Cycles was the closest one to the park entrance. As soon as I walked up to Zion Cycles, Sarah met me at the door. I asked her if they could fix a flat, and she said "yes". I noticed that the bike tech working in the back had a few bikes waiting for him. I then asked Sarah if they could fix it now, and she smiled and said "yes we can". I told her about my flat, and how far I had just walked. Sarah then said "We are going to take good care of you, and get you back with your group as soon as we can. Why don't you go relax, and have a nice cup of coffee, and by the time you get done we'll have you ready to go". I did just that, but instead of coffee I had some great ice cream from the shop next door. When I went back to Zion Cycles, Sarah told me that Jimmy was just finishing up. Jimmy ended up asking me if I wanted to know what caused the flat. I said, yes, and he called me over and showed me a small, thin, piece of cardboard that Jimmy said was in between the Tannus Armour and the tube. The cardboard rubbing between the tube and the Tannus eventually wore through the tube! Jimmy and Sarah discovered that the small cardboard piece was from the Tannus Armour packaging! It must have fallen between the tube and the armour during my initial installation. My jaw about hit the floor when Sarah gave me my bill for the repair. It was less than $20 for the labor!! Needless to say... a huge tip was included with the payment :-). While in the shop I noticed they had a great assortment of riding clothes and gear. I told Sarah that I would be back later with my wife to do some shopping. I was back riding with my group in less than an hour after leaving the shop. The next day my wife and I went back to Zion Cycles and spent over $600 on riding gear and a new pair of 510s. The rest of our vacation was amazing. I am so thankful for the unbelievable, fast and friendly service we received from Sarah and Jimmy. Instead of our day-1 ending very badly, I now look back on that "flat" as a great experience. I'll never forget that beautiful 6 mile walk back out of Zion Park that ended with Sarah's smiling face reassuring me that "we are going to take...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is simply one of my favorite shops in the nation. The main part of the shop is roughly the size of a one-car garage, and yet they stock more useful things than shops 10x that size. Brake pads, fork rebuild kits, derailleurs, just about anything you might find you need on a vacation in the Springdale/Gooseberry area, they've probably got it. The staff is fantastic, they know their stuff and they'll get you back up and running. I've now vacationed in the Springdale area four times, and on several occasions they helped us out of what could have been vacation killer problems. They are extremely knowledgeable about the local trails (and some not quite as local) and are more than happy to share their knowledge. Their rental fleet is fantastic, to the point where I just leave my bike at home and rent from them. We ship out my wife's bike, and they assemble it and have it ready to go by the time we get out there.
One other reviewer gave them one star because they closed early... in November. Honestly, if you're going to plan your trip around them being open when you get there, you might just want to pick up the phone and actually confirm with them before you fly out. Just a thought.
This shop is in a large part why we've now been to Springdale four times. They make a vacation out there so very effortless and enjoyable, it's hard to think of going...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRoad-cycling Zion Canyon remains as somewhat of a secret to unlocking the fun and magic of a visit to Zion Canyon, even during, maybe especially during, peak tourist season. The good people at Zion Cycles were very helpful and low key / non-salesy in unleashing my family and I into Zion Canyon. Their rental bike was tuned and ready to roll, and their pricing was fair. Discreetly pedaling past multiple hundreds of tourists standing in line at the Visitor Center to ride the canyon shuttle and then continuing right up the gorgeous P'Arus trail and (if you can believe it), then onto the smooth, nearly flat, perfectly paved, and 99% empty-of-motor-vehicles main canyon road in the midst of Zion Canyon's epic visual feast was astoundingly great! Don't forget your swim trunks, so you can stop at one of the swimming holes on P'Arus trail, and take the rent-4-free bike-lock, too, so you can lock-up and then sight-see at the scenic destinations and at Zion Lodge. As great as those destination spots are, it's the 'spaces between' them on the trails / road that are special, because you have them to yourself. Imagine that, solitude in Zion Canyon during peak season. Crazy true! Thank you,...
