Marriott’s The Lodge in Zion Country should not be taking in guests if the lodge has not been properly taken over from La Quinta and refurbished to be fit for staying. No good pool, no gym …basically no information was given to me prior to my stay that the lodge is under refurbishment and in the midst of changing hands! Even the change of lodge’s name was not informed! Only found out myself weeks before arrival. ||I had never written such a long bad review before. ||Our room was generally clean but there were many problems. ||- I was told by the reception that all requests were not registered in their system. This was despite having sent an email to the lodge through Marriott and got a confirmation from them. Prior to the email, I did not receive any reply from lodge for months via booking.com. We had to put up with the room that we did not like for 3 nights. |- Messed up our bookings. I have 2 bookings back to back - 2 nights and 1 night, booked months ago. Despite written to them upon booking and also weeks before arrival to combine the 2 bookings so that we did not need to check out and in again; and also told two different staff twice again at the reception during/after check in, the reception still called us to check out after our first booking or risked being charged with late check out! Fortunately we were back in lodge to rest for a while at 4pm, and was able to re-validate our room card. By the way, an email sent to the lodge days ago to clarify this was met with silence! |- Only one counter desk and 1 staff at the temporary reception, queues were forming during check in, and apparently she was also taking care of the housekeeping as she had to bring toiletries to our room when there were none in our room. She was friendly nevertheless. |- Breakfast area is at the temporary reception area with less than 10 small tables to serve a lodge with hundreds of guests??!! |- Continent breakfast only serves from 7am which is too late as first shuttle bus out to Zion National Park was at 7am. Most people will need breakfast before heading out to national park because of the crowd and summer heat. All the other accommodations we stayed in this trip served breakfast as early as 530am. This is the only accommodation that we did not manage to have our breakfast before heading out. |- WiFi is so bad, is almost non-existent, both in room and reception. |- The vanity top is renovated, but the bathtub area is not. A big hole in the wall at the shower head. The room looks mixed of old and new, so is weird. |- The aircon is so loud that it disturbed our sleep |- No teas bags in the room |- 2 black out curtain for the only window. Shouldn’t it be one day and one blackout curtain? We had to live with no daylight into our room and had the curtain drawn for privacy as our room was beside the lobby reception. |- 30% security deposit charged to my card upon check in. During check out, the reception told me that they could only refund me the 30% deposit 7-10 days after check out! What kind of ridiculous policy is that! Do they need 7-10 days to check the room after check out? Asked for a receipt instead so I would have some kind of proof of the amount to be refunded to me for both of my bookings, but thwy said their system could only print out the second booking as the first booking, which was only a day earlier, was already not in the system! All the other accommodations for the past 14 days in US refunded us within hours, even for the biggest lodge in Grand Canyon refunded us within a day. ||Marriott, I am totally upset with my stay and this is the most expensive and yet the worst stay in my 2...
Read moreWe pulled in after a long day's worth of travel from San Diego and were pleasantly greeted by a friendly front-desk staff member and warm cookies for the whole crew (bonus points!). First impression of the hotel was one of pure joy and excitement from the kids as the property's splash pad and swimming pool is featured front and center as you pull in. While the kids were giddy over that, I couldn't help but be awed at the 360 degree views of the beautiful red mountains Zion National Park is so famous for. When I finally stopped staring at the epic scenery and got around to checking in, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel lobby and breakfast area, as well as how easy and seamless check-in was. Everything was quick and organized, and I was super pleased to find we had been assigned a first level room with parking right out front. Talk about making my life easy as a Mama traveling with four kids who, lets be honest, aren't super helpful when it comes to carrying in luggage!
What I love about this property was that even though it's summertime and likely their busiest season, there was ample parking throughout and the ambiance felt more like a resort than a hotel. The day we arrived the temperatures were upwards of 105, so I was extremely thankful to find our room nice and cool upon entry. The room was a decent size and included a refrigerator (always helpful when traveling with milk for kiddos!), as well as the jackpot for any family traveling with a child that sleeps in a pack and play...a closet big enough to set up their bed inside of and still be able to shut the door most of the way! I'm happy to report that the La Quinta at Zion Park/Springdale afforded our whole family an amazing night's sleep thanks to their closets with a door. WIN!
As a Mom, I also loved the setup of the pool. The entire right side was about 2 feet deep and had water fixtures throughout. My toddler, infant, and I hung out in this section the entire time, while my older girls ventured out into the other end of the pool, that got to about 6 feet deep and was geared more towards adults and older children. The deeper section did feature a waterfall fixture in one corner, so the older two had fun swimming under that. The pool area had towels, chaise lounges, cabanas, abs a hot tub and was clean and not crowded.
Prior to leaving we stopped in the lobby area for a quick breakfast around 8 a.m. While it did seem to be a busy time for breakfast, everything was fully stocked and we easily found a table to fit my whole crew. Breakfast was an array of hot and cold items, such as cereal, toast and bagels, eggs, and potatoes, with the option to have a waffle made. We all found something we liked! Overall our stay at the La Quinta at Zion Park Springdale was incredibly easy, convenient, and pleasant. I highly recommend this property to anyone traveling with a family or just looking for a beautiful, convenient, and peaceful spot at the mouth of Zion...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I am the manager of a Hotel in Nevada, so I do know how to accommodate guests. I also understand fire code regarding occupancy. I reserved a King Suite with bunk beds and sofa for a ladies outing. We arrived at the La Quinta approximately 9am the morning of check in. Being in the hospitality industry, I knew this was far too early to check in, so didn't even ask, although I did notify the Manager that we were there and we proceeded to hike Zion National Park for the next 8 hours. After hiking and looking forward to a soak in the hot tub, I attempted to check in. I was asked how many, replied 6 and was immediately told this was too many and I could not check in. I explained that when I booked online, it said 1 King bed, 2 bunk beds and sofa sleeper as the sleeping accommodations. It was quickly pointed out that it said only sofa, not sofa sleeper. I questioned why they would advertise a sofa and did other guests perceive this as sofa sleeper and was coldly told "yes". Hmmmmmm? I should not have assumed sofa sleeper but it never occured to me that a Hotel chain would advertise sofa. Why put sofa in your advertising? Do you put chair in your advertising because the room has a chair? I then asked what we could do about the arrangement and was told, quite curtly, that I could rent another room at $199.00 for the night (were they kidding?) The Manager of the Hotel offered NO resolve / NO compassion. I again asked what we could do to make this work and the Manager said rent another room or "try" to find something else in town to accommodate us. I cancelled the reservation with assurance from the Manager that there would be no charge and as I was walking out, was told rudely, by the front desk staff, to "have a lovely evening". Really? Being a Hotel Manager, I know that there is always a way to rectify a problem with a guest. After all isn't it our obligation to make the guest happy? I understand fire codes, but absolutely no solution was provided. This Manager couldn't be bothered. On a side note, after reading reviews of this particular Hotel, I saw one woman stating the number of people in the same suite we had booked and there were 6 of them. Interesting!!! . Another review mentioned that they were offered a foam mattress for the sofa to accommodate their group. Perhaps I shouldn't have been so forthcoming about the number in our group, but what does that teach us? Thank goodness we had a wonderful hiking day, but the end to the day was so very SAD and we had to make a long and...
