It was SO clean, stylish, and fresh. The staff was great, and it’s literally AT Yellowstone’s West entrance. Technically I guess you can’t say it’s IN the park boundaries, but seriously you can walk to the West entrance from The Golden Stone Inn. Also, the town of West Yellowstone is really cute too. There are restaurants, grocery stores, clothing and souvenir shops etc. I liked staying here SO much more than in Old Faithful and The Lake. The room is hip yet comfy, and I liked having access to a little town yet still being pretty much IN the park. AND it was less expensive than all the other lodging in the park.
Also, logistically, I really like the West entrance because you can cut through through the middle of the figure 8 and go counterclockwise/opposite of the majority of everyone else/less traffic to do the upper loop. Then the next day you can do the Southern loop. Of course it’s best to have more than a day for each loop, but since the West entrance is smack dab in the middle of the figure 8, it’s actually doable to do each loop in one day if you start at the West entrance and get a very early start and stay in the park until sunset.
Also, The Golden Stone Inn is not far from Old Faithful. We went straight from the airport and stopped at Old Faithful in the evening (sun doesn’t set until 920pm) on the way to the Golden Stone Inn. That way we had already completed a good portion of the Southern loop just on our way to the Golden Stone Inn.
They have a yummy free breakfast, leave coffee and/or tea at your door, and have all you need to roast marshmallows in the outdoor fire pits every night. This is where we will stay every time we visit Yellowstone. I’m so glad we found this little place.
PS: when you stop at Biscuit Basin, be SURE to take the trail DOWN to the mystic falls. (There or 2 or 3 you can take and You want to go to the base of the falls) You can hop from rock to rock and make your way down INTO the falls for awesome pics and a fun little side adventure. This is my favorite spot in all of Yellowstone. It’s not crowded, so you get a more “intimate” experience with the falls and it’s really fun going from rock to rock in the river. Be sure to bring Teva type sandals or waterproof hiking shoes to do this. (It’s too slippery barefoot, though I did see 2 people doing it barefoot.) We almost didn’t stop at Biscuit basin because we were pressed for time and heard there are no more biscuit formations. I’m so happy we did. In all of Yellowstone, Mystic falls is my favorite trail and sapphire pool is my favorite pool—both in Biscuit Basin. Hayden valley is my second favorite area in Yellowstone. It’s...
Read moreMy husband and I took a road trip through Park City, Jackson, Grand Teton and Yellowstone NPs this fall, and The Golden Stone Inn was our favorite stay by far. In fact, it's top of our list for one of the best inns we've ever stayed at, ever.
The rooms were beautiful, new, lovingly decorated, spacious. They thought of everything, from the robes to the mini fridge to the extra spacious hanging racks. Location could not have been better-- in the center of town but tucked away from main street noise, a mere 10 minutes from Yellowstone's West gate and lots of dining options. A major perk was the awesome homemade breakfast every morning (we got eggs, pancakes, french toast, potatoes... it was amazing. Something different each morning). And at night, smores and cookies around the fire pit in the courtyard. Wow.
But the best thing was the hospitality, specifically Cory, who was one of the most genuinely welcoming hosts we've ever had at a hotel, motel or AirBnB. We are not fishermen, but loved hearing his international fishing stories. Cory was so kind to us, making an effort to chat with us and get to know us. And we so enjoyed getting to know him-- not only is he just a good human, but super interesting and well traveled. He gave us some great tips for hidden gems to visit on our way out of town and hooked us up with a place to upcycle our bear spray. I feel like we made a friend, and that's the sort of thing that sticks with you after an extra special vacation. Can't wait until the day we can return for another stay in West Yellowstone and maybe take a fishing lesson or two from Cory. Special place, special people. So glad places like this...
Read moreThis review is long for all the right reasons. Having asthma I am often sensitive to scented cleaning products so I requested fragrance-free cleansers be used in the room we'd be staying and that is definitely what was used. Upon opening the cabin door it smelled so fresh and clean w/o any fragrance. The cabins are very spacious and immaculate with modern flooring, high hat lighting, and a very comfortable bed. Love the robes they provide too. The grounds are meticulously maintained and the common guests area is so clean. In fact after breakfast hours don’t be surprised to see a staff member Swiffering the floor. And speaking of breakfast it is amazing! A custom made omelet if you’d like, potatoes, bacon waffles, French toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals and oatmeal. Something for everyone. The entire staff offers tremendous hospitality. A very special shout out to Corey, the general manager. My husband had mentioned to him I was feeling under the weather and being that I am a tea drinker he put lemon on his shopping list so I could have it with my tea the following morning. They already have a few different types of honey so this certainly speaks to how special this place and staff are. Thank you Golden Stone for making our stay so, so...
