Our recent stay at Hotel Sofia fell short of expectations. We had reserved and prepaid for a room with a full balcony for two nights. Despite notifying the hotel of our late arrival after a day trip, we were disappointed to find that our room had been allocated to another guest. The staff offered an apology and a different room, but it lacked a balcony and only had single beds, which was not what we had booked.
We were then directed to an alternative hotel nearby. Unfortunately, this hotel was not clean and was situated in a noisy area bustling with nightlife, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep. We opted not to stay there.
Upon returning to Hotel Sofia the next evening, we were finally given our originally booked room. However, the room's cleanliness left much to be desired; there was litter around the sink, the fridge was dirty, and the balcony was littered with debris such as hair, dead cockroaches, cigarette butts, and q-tips. Additionally, the bathroom had stagnant water with a foul smell due to poor drainage, and the elevator was noticeably dusty, covered in fingerprints and unattended for what seemed like a considerable time.
The management’s offer of a mere $4 compensation was inadequate and did little to mitigate our dissatisfaction. Based on our experience, I would advise potential guests to seek other accommodations, as the level of service and attention to cleanliness at Hotel Sofia were...
Read moreExtremely Disappointing Experience at Sophia Hotel
My recent stay at Sophia was highly unsatisfactory and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn other travelers. Initially, our first night went smoothly, which encouraged us to book an additional night for when we returned from a brief trip out of town. Despite prepaying, upon our late evening return, we were shocked to find that our reserved room had been given away.
The alternative room offered to us lacked the balcony and had single beds instead of a big bed which was a priority for our booking, showing a lack of regard for our preferences and the agreement at the time of booking. The situation worsened when we were relocated to a different hotel, which was not only unclean but also located in a noisy party district, far from the peaceful environment we desired.
The feeling of being cheated was unavoidable, as it was clear that Sofia did not fulfill their commitment to provide the services we paid for. While the staff was polite, it hardly compensated for the overall negative experience. The room quality is alright despite cleanliness just scraping "okay" and beds were uncomfortably hard.
I cannot recommend this hotel due to this experience. It is unacceptable to disregard guest reservations and compromise on service quality, especially when prepayment is involved. Prospective guests should consider this before booking to avoid similar...
Read moreThe hotel acted irresponsibly by canceling a guest’s booking even though it had been made 3 months in advance.
On May 7, I booked a room at Hanoi Sofia Hotel for 3 people from September 1 to September 3 via Booking.com, with payment later at the hotel. I even carefully sent a private message to the hotel’s Facebook page to confirm, they replied that they had received my booking.
On August 11, I received an email from Booking.com titled “Confirm cancellation of booking,” even though I had no intention of canceling. I contacted the hotel, and they added me on Zalo and told me they had canceled my booking due to a “technical error.”
September 2 is Vietnam’s National Day, a peak travel period, so the hotel will likely be able to sell the rooms at a higher price to new guests. Perhaps that is why my booking was canceled. Whatever the reason, this is shameful and unacceptable behavior. My family had planned our trip long in advance to watch the September 2nd parade, and this irresponsible action by the hotel has greatly disrupted our plans.
Please think carefully before booking a room...
