This time i pre-booked ticket and go to Tokyo from Osaka by shinkansen, met up with Kie and Ryu at Tokyo Station (as we booked ticket separately), cost about 15000 japanese yen (actually i visited this station again to go back to Osaka to take the flight flying back to hong kong)
Tokyo Station (with classic European architectural look and the red brick front wall at station entrance, built in 1914, turned 100 year anniversary in year 2024) is a major transportation hub for about half a million commuters and tourists serving mainly the following lines: i feel it impressive seeing trains leaving and arriving at the station and platforms
Tokaido Shinkansen Line Hokkaido Shinkansen Line Tohoku Shinkansen Line Akita Shinkansen Line Yamagata Shinkansen Line Joetsu Shinkansen Line Hokuriku Shinkansen Line
JR Tokaido Main Line JR Yokosuka Line JR Sobu Main Line JR Sobu Main Line (Rapid) JR Keihin-Tohoku Line JR Yamanote Line JR Chuo Main Line JR Keiyo Line JR Ueno Tokyo Line Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line
Riding on shinkansen is a very pleasant experience, it is quiet, train announcement is in a soft voice, japanese passengers usually very polite, and don't expect them, especially if you sit next to a pretty lady 😊, to talk to you or disturb you
It is my habit to buy a nice bento or set meal to eat/enjoy while riding on a shinkansen train, seeing the ever changing scenery along the way
by the way, it is recommended to visit the Tokyo Train Gallery/museum if you have ample time at the station

Read moreTokyo Station is an incredible mega structure, the highlight of Japan’s advanced technology and modern architecture. The station has a humungous building, but it’s many more times bigger underground. The station has a bunch of lines including the Shinkansen, JR trains, express train to the airports, and many others, combining up to 26 different types of trains. There are self baggage storage stalls in every corner of the station, costing $800-$1000 per luggage. The place is a maze but directions and markings are help a lot to find the train lines. There are also exit gates numbered that helps everyone to find the correct door to head out.
Apart from trains, the station is hub for thousands of stores. We walked for hours yet it felt like we only covered few corners of the station. There are so many restaurants, some for dine-in, some for take out having the dishes already cooked and packed. The commuters returning from work stopped by these shops to quickly grab their food on the way home. There are several gift shops, cosmetic store, bakeries, and several other types.
We arrived in Tokyo though this station via Shinkansen from Kyoto. We also took the Narita Express train from this station to take our departure flight. We bought some food before our train, and ate it while on our way to the airport. It was the full Japanese commute experience. A memorable way to end our trip of...
Read moreI don't know why they're using a 1980s system in 2025 and confusing customers.
Is there any 0 point? I'm really upset because of Tokyo Station's inappropriate system.
I arrived at Toko station 40 minutes before my departure time, but missed my train due to the inflexible staff's unfriendly explanations, lack of common sense and frustrating communication, a complicated ticketing process that is too hard to understand for a foreigner, and an inflexible staff who parroted me repeatedly to get in line for a 20 minute wait even though the train was leaving in 5 minutes.
I am very, very angry. I can't find any explanation as to why I'm getting two tickets when I only need one, and even if I do get two, it's not written in a way that makes sense to me, nor is it explained to me in a friendly way. The most offensive thing is the lack of common sense and rudeness...
