We purchased and scheduled a group trip for snorkeling on Saturday 8/31 and scheduled it for Wednesday 9/4. On Wednesday We paid for our taxi, got to the dock to board with our entrance ticket and were rerouted to the Oceanus office. In the office we were told that our tour was rescheduled (due to low sales) for the day prior. (We were not informed) they insisted that they tried contacting us via text “multiples veces” and via phone “multiples llamadas”. They assumed everyone has WhatsApp installed on their phones, therefore we did not get the memo about the reschedule. We asked for verification of the “multiple attempts” to contact us (they were able to show us one text on WhatsApp and one phone-call… neither went through to us because the contact person does not have the app.) They continued to deny responsibility saying that they did what they had to do (contact us once and contact the third party vendor, Alma from Hacienda Encantada to inform us about the changes, which we weren't). The third party said they'd help us with our refunds but that a taxi fee would not be refunded, that Oceanus was responsible for that). Oceanus of course said they wouldn't do that.
In addition, a lady from a second floor in the office just popped her head out from the balcony and began shouting from up there saying that any issue with the snorkeling tour was not their problem, saying that the person who helped us book the tour (Alma from Hacienda Encantada),was responsible for this issue, and rudely said that “Alma needs to address this issue that she always does this all the time and it’s her problem to fix not Oceanus”.
In my opinion, it was very unprofessional for them to express themselves so negatively about a resort that brings in high volumes of clientele in-front of the customers. I will make sure any future bookings are not through Oceanus or any affiliates of theirs. Horrible...
Read moreWe booked a humpback whale watching tour through our resort so we knew we’d be on a licensed boat. We didn’t realize that it was a huge boat with a bar and banos (bathrooms)! We met so many fun people in line as we waited to head down the dock and continued our conversations with them on the boat.
Once on the boat, we were greeted and given a quick lay of the land (boat). They had coffee and pastries and a open bar. Since I don’t really care pastries and had already had my fill of coffee, I opted for the next best breakfast choice- a tequila sunrise!
We headed out of the marina and sailed by Lovers Beach and Los Arcos. As we got further out into the ocean we saw the water splash of a few whales and headed in the direction. So did many other boats and the whales like to be free not surrounded by boats so we didn’t not see them breach. We saw the whales flip their powerful flukes to create a splash and the boat steered closer to them.
Even though we didn’t get to see any whales fully breach, we enjoyed our two hours on the ocean and being that close to a humpback whale is beautiful and powerful.
The staff was amazing!! They were al so attentive and continued to circulate to quickly refill our empty drinks.
Andrew was the MC and kept us informed and entertained! He alone is worth the price of admission.
Please remember to tip the staff - they work hard to keep us safe and...
Read moreCompared to past snorkeling trips this was a disappointment. The boat is huge and there must have been 100 people onboard. Essentially I felt like herded cattle. The crew spent a lot of time going over rules and basically dictating every move. Life vests were required which I understand but they were very cumbersome orange flotation devices (like when we were kids on a lake) that made it difficult to swim. Once we got into the water the crew yelled quite a lot herding us this way and that. They threw food into the water to attract the fish which was weird and unnatural. The coral below was dead, obviously due to over use of the area and loads of sunscreen daily. Personally I did not like being a part of the degradation of nature! It was contrived and way too crowded in the water. The crew tried hard to be funny while delivering instruction and rules and fine of $200 if you lose a piece of equipment which felt threatening. They flat out emphasized tips to an annoying degree (they should just build it in)! The lunch was actually good. Nothing to write home about but filling and tasty. Overall, would not recommend. Take a much smaller,...
