Michael Sleeper/owner seems to be a genuinely unhappy person. I feel sympathy for a man who can live in such a beautiful place and have so much hate in his heart. Michael may make decent art for windows, but his customer service skills are nonexistent, which must be why his shop is so full, he scares the customers away. His no picture warning sign is about 2x2inches (see picture), and he WILL yell at you when you miss it. Michael also does not welcome customers to his shop/notify people of his policy, seems he loves the thrill of yelling at them. I suggest looking through the window at his art, but not entering if you wish to enjoy your memories of Bar Harbor. I hope in his old age he hires someone with people skills to be the face of his business. All the best to him.

I was having a fun carefree day looking for a gift for my mom. Greeted by a grumpy old man with a point directly at me and, "NO PHOTOS IN HERE!"* Turned around and walked out. "NO BUSINESS IN HERE" is more like it! *With online retailers like Temu ripping off local artisans work every day, I can understand the no photos rule. However, I can't tolerate the aggressive tone. PLEASE MAKE A BEAUTIFUL SIGN THAT EXCLAIMS "NO PHOTOS!"

Please read ALL of the horrible reviews for this store! The owner is truly SO awful, and he doesn’t deserve anyone’s business.

I have never had a worse shopping experience in my ENTIRE life. My friend and I saw this store after hours and were so excited to stop here the next day to shop for ourselves and for our families. The suncatcher display was beautiful from the window. When we went inside the store today, we both admired at the splendor of it all. We were so excited to finally shop at this store that we admired for days and finally had the chance to stop in! When we walked inside, my friend had said that her mother in law would LOVE the store and wanted to send her a picture, so she took her phone out. The owner, who was sitting nearby, SCREAMED at us that there were no pictures and asked if we had seen the “multiple signs” saying no photography. We apologized and said no, we hadn’t! We truly did not see any signs. She put her phone away immediately and apologized several times because of the gruffness of his “scolding.” I was shocked at his rudeness to us both, and even went outside to see where the “multiple” signs were. There was ONE small cutout on the door frame that said no photography that we completely missed. It was soooo small that no one would possibly have taken notice of it. Maybe an inch by an inch?! My friend had already put her phone away when he yelled multiple times “bye” … “goodbye” and made us leave. Are you kidding me?! We had been so excited to spend money in this store, and he screamed at us for a simple misunderstanding about a no phone policy that was NOT clearly advertised.

He is a truly horrible, horrible rude man who should never own a business. I am reporting him to the Better Business Bureau after reading all of the beyond terrible reviews that he’s received. So many people have had awful experiences with this man over the years, and he doesn’t deserve a dime for his terrible treatment...

My husband and I were visiting Bar Harbor while on vacation. As we were walking along the street, this man’s display caught my attention. I was thinking about how beautiful the sun catchers looked hanging in his shop. As I stood on the sidewalk looking in through the wide open door, I decided to snap a quick photo. I did not see any signs in the window about photography or l would have respected the request. At any rate, this man came from behind and slammed the back of his hand against my phone and yelled” no photos in this shop!” At first I walked away but then I decided to go back inside and tell this man how unacceptable his behavior was. I informed him that I had been admiring his work and probably would have purchased something had he not been so rude. He definitely lost a sale today! He moved his hand up and down like he was mocking what I said and waved his other hand to “shoo” me out of the shop. Considering this shop is located in a top tourist destination, this man has some how not figured out how to be polite to guests.I’m surprised he is still in business! I have reported this shop owner to the chamber of commerce. I encourage anyone else who has been treated rudely by this man to...

Was having a great day in downtown Bar Harbor when I finally walked into this shop with my boyfriend after walking past it the past couple days. I was admiring his work out loud, then took my phone out to take a short video. The grumpy old man behind the counter screamed “DELETE THAT VIDEO”, and I just said “……Okay, can I ask why you don’t let people take pictures of your beautiful work?” to which he replied “Just think about it” in a sarcastic manner. I then said “Yeah I’m unsure, I still don’t understand”, and he said “Yeah of course you don’t” without even looking at me. I turned to my boyfriend in complete shock, then immediately turned around and left. We were in the store for less than 20 seconds. On our way out, there was a sign about 2x2 inches that had “no photos” on it.

Like, are you serious? Never in my life have I been treated that way by a store owner. And mind you, I live in CHICAGO of all places. Never thought Bar Harbor, Maine would be my first interaction like this. If you want to have fond memories of Bar Harbor, please don’t shop here. After reading everyone else’s reviews, it made me feel so much better that I wasn’t alone. I really am unsure how this man is still...
