I have been living here for 3 years, overall very good experience until recent Greystar team taking over. I am very Disappointed with how Greystar handled the transition, communication, and resident experience. Below is a summary of my experience:
Leasing Team & Portal Transition: In May, Greystar took over management of the property, including switching to a new resident portal. During this period, there was no clear onboarding process or official guidance for residents. The transition created confusion around how and when to pay rent, especially since access to the new portal was inconsistent.
Miscommunication from the Front Desk: Residents were verbally told by staff that no late fees would be charged until the new portal was fully operational. Based on that, many of us waited to pay until we could access the correct platform. This guidance was later contradicted, and no formal communication was ever issued to clarify the policy.
No Written Communication: At no point did Greystar send out an email or written notice explaining the rent payment process during the transition period, or what would happen regarding late fees. Everything was handled informally and verbally, leaving residents to rely on inconsistent and unclear information.
Late Fees Charged for May and June: Despite the confusion and lack of communication, late fees were charged for June. In my case, I was charged a flat $225 fee
Inconsistent Application of Waivers: Greystar claimed they would waive the “first late fee” as a courtesy, but in practice this seemed completely arbitrary. Some residents were granted waivers simply because they pushed hard in person; others — who were also late for the first time — received nothing. There was no clear policy, just case-by-case decisions that seemed to depend on how much time someone was willing to argue at the office.
Unprofessional Attitude: Rather than acknowledging the confusion they caused, the leasing team’s response has been blame-shifting and unapologetic. There was no empathy or accountability — just a rigid enforcement of policy with little regard for the resident experience. It felt like we were being punished for their...
Read moreDO NOT MOVE HERE if you like to sleep. Since moving here in February I have been woken up almost every single morning by construction noise. I moved here from Michigan and only had the opportunity to tour the establishment once before moving; which magically was a day the construction workers had off. The leasing agent said it was nothing to worry about because the windows were sound proof and they would most likely be done by April- LIES!!! The construction project keeps expanding and the noise multiplying. There are also three porta-potties that have been installed that I have to walk by every day to even enter my apartment which is not only gross but a huge eye sore. The leasing agent also lied about the indoor pool/hot tub being done by the end of March...here it is May and it is still not open and I'm paying the rent of a person who would have such an amenity. To top off my issues: the leasing agent who I signed my lease with no longer works here. I went this morning to make a complaint and broke down in tears to the leasing agent explaining how I could not get any sleep and if there is anything that could be done/any inclination of when the construction would be over. I was met with a blank stair from the "manager" who has obviously never worked in customer service in her entire life. She said there was nothing they can do and they have no idea when the construction will be finished. She told me I always have the option to break my lease but it would cost 2 months rent: $3,300 (and they won't even consider lowering it despite my terrible experience). I am honestly considering breaking it because I've been that miserable. I am not one to typically write nasty reviews and my experience here has been so sour that I feel compelled to do so. Hopefully this prevents some other poor soul from getting suckered into...
Read moreSoma Towers was my worst renting experience. I rented two different units from 2014-2016, and there was problem after problem.
To preface, I had rented from another property owned by the same company called Soma Apartments for three years before moving to the towers, and my experience at the smaller place was 5/5. They lost something moving to the towers, and it got worse between my move in and when I left two years later.
Some walls were fine, but some were thin. It's not nice having paper thin walls in your bedroom but nowhere else.
It took them a year to crack down on tenants smoking on their balcony. Always great to get woken up at 3AM by the smell of smoke!
They didn't have enough parking for a two bedroom unit to have two parking spots, but the guy with the Bentley got 5. The best they could do was find arrange a parking spot at Soma Apartments, 3 blocks away.
I was accosted by another tenant in the elevator lobby for no clear reason, and it took them half of a year to evict the guy despite having video evidence of the interaction. They also wouldn't let me post about the encounter to warn other tenants.
A mistake on their end caused them to undercharge me for parking, leading to a sizable surprise bill. The management team and I worked out a plan to pay half and call it good, but the property owner stepped in and shot it down when management drew up the charge incorrectly. My last call with the building management was the rudest conversation that I'd had with someone that I was willingly paying as well.
They'd never confront individuals about the problems that the individual was causing, such as noise, garbage in the halls, etc. Instead the whole community would get an email blast each time as a "reminder".
I'd rate them 0/5 if I...
