Trader Rick's Marketplace — Local services in Cocoa Beach

I visited Trader Jim’s in Cocoa Beach FL with my two children and experienced a deeply upsetting incident. I live with Crohn’s disease, a federally recognized disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). During my visit, I urgently needed restroom access due to a medical flare and politely explained my condition to the staff. They refused to allow me to use the restroom, even after I explained it was a medical emergency.

As a result, I suffered an accident in public , something no person with a chronic illness should have to endure. The lack of empathy and understanding shown was inhumane and discriminatory.

Businesses should be aware that Crohn’s disease is a protected disability, and denying access to basic facilities in a medical emergency violates both human decency and the ADA’s spirit of equal access. This was my first time visiting Cocoa Beach. I wasn't aware that there was not a public restroom on this beach. I came in yesterday begging to use the restroom as it was an emergency. I understand that you may have a lot of this, but I do feel like there was a lack of good judgement here. The lady behind the counter could have let me use just this once seeing that I was about to go on your floor. Instead I was told "No". I was shocked at the lack of kindness from your store. Don't bother with this store. They treat customers as though they are a bother. There is a park just south of here, where you can park, there are public restrooms, and showers to clean off the sand. If you need sun block, simply go down the strip as there are...
