The store is quite nice and they do carry some very stylish and quality gear. I live just down the road, visit somewhat regularly, and have generally always had solid shopping experiences here. All in all I am very happy to have them in the neighborhood. From my, admittedly limited experience (though I am a bit of a gearhead and do own boots, pants, shirts and a couple bags from these guys so decently experienced) the biggest drawback would definitely be that they are quite expensive (the first pair of pants I got from them was $240)... Ive always thought of them as basically a European Patagonia type brand just a bit more expensive.
Here is the reason for my deducted star… When you get into purchasing higher priced gear, one of the main benefits is that they tend to really stand behind and have excellent customer service. Specifically one of the nice things about these guys is that they offer repairs and even appear to do it in house based on the huge table/sewing machine in the middle of the store... Anyways, I recently got a chance to put their repair service to the test by stopping in with a recently purchased vest that got a tiny fire ember hole burnt into the chest (not their fault or a quality issue by any means)... I stopped in mostly just to see if they had a tiny matching fabric patch I could use and guy told me that even better than a patch they could just fix it for me… Great!... Anyways, fast forward to today when I got a call to come pick it up and right away noticed that the fix they decided to go with was to pinch up and sew together the areas on either side of the little hole, which I will admit does seal things (not really necessary as it was more of a visual thing), BUT unfortunately the stitching is about 3+times the size of the original hole and is now way more noticeable than had they done nothing (its a fairly form fitting vest which is now all scrunched and tighter in the center of my belly... my girlfriends immediate reaction was... "Uhh.. that looks pretty bad.. what a bummer... Do you want me to get you a new one for Christmas")... Pretty bummed with the situation, I went right back to see if they simply had a very basic black patch (like I had originally asked for) to where I could cut out the stitching and simply patch over the now larger damaged area (from being stitched) myself. The employee's had no idea where such a thing might be (I suggested perhaps the huge repair station in the center of the store...). One gal then tossed me a big white logo patch and said I could have that (which I pointed out would probably not blend in well on the stomach of my plain black vest). She then suggested I go to REI (for repair stuff/help I guess)... So yeah, overall that situation was a bummer: fist accidentally burning a hole into a new vest, then the attempted "fix" actually making things significantly worse (at least visually)... Perhaps I just had a bad experience.. with a nice gesture: to fix it for me. Gone wrong).
For others I would say that if you do need any sort of repair I would suggest you actually discuss what they plan on doing before agreeing to anything. Also another option would be to simply buy it from REI across the street. Probably not ideal for these guys but REI does sell a decent selection of their stuff and have an incredible track record of backing everything they sell (including Fjallraven).
Edit: I did just get a call from the store manager to apologize and make the situation right which I really appreciate and also significantly restored my faith in them having the high level of customer service one would expect from the...
Read moreEDIT: I'm keeping the original review below for posterity, but the store manager reached out to me and made things right so I've updated my rating. I really appreciate it when managers are willing to do that, and mine turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix, so thanks to management for contacting me!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Clothes are decent, customer service is not.
I came into the store from out of town, saw a jacket I liked and bought it, and left it at the store to have some alterations done to it. I live pretty far from Denver and wasn't going to be in town again anytime soon, so I asked to have it shipped once the alterations were complete. Shortly after leaving the store, I learned that Fjallraven makes the same jacket in a few other colors that I like much more than the ones offered in-store, so I called to see if it would be possible to swap my jacket for one of the other colors. The first gentleman I spoke to was friendly and said that wouldn't be a problem, since the jacked hadn't been altered yet. He checked their inventory and saw that those colors were unavailable. So I looked around and found the same jacket in the color I wanted at a different store, and called back to ask if I could just "return" the jacket (that they already have). The guy I spoke with the second time was rude to me basically from the moment he picked up the phone. He made it sound like I was asking for something ridiculous by suggesting that they could just keep the jacket, look up my order, and refund me. I even offered to email them the receipt and he insisted that I'd have to come in to process the return in person. So now, I have a jacket that is sitting in their store that I can't get refunded for until I find the time to drive the 1.5 hours back down to Denver to literally show them an email receipt that they have access to in the store. And I get to deal with a person who was incredibly rude to me on the phone for no reason whatsoever.
Either this is a messed up computer system that won't allow such a return, or a store employee with a strange grudge against people who decide they want to return things. Either way, I was treated like trash and won't be shopping there again. Teach your employees to treat customers with respect, or hire people that...
