My boyfriend and I came to Sushi Sasa on a Tuesday to celebrate his Birthday. I’ve heard great things about this place and thought it would be a special place to take him. I made reservations days in advance and made sure to note that we wanted a cozy booth if possible and that is was his birthday.
Upon arriving to check in for our reservation the host was stuck on a lengthy phone conversation (totally not her fault). She was really nice when we were able to check in and said she was waiting on a table for our reservation. There is one bench in the waiting area that was taken up by a large group so we were awkwardly standing partially in front of the door. At almost 20 minutes waiting for a table the very friendly host offered us a drink while we waited. However she handed us a sushi menu and not a drink menu and never came back to ask what we decided on.
At this point a 4 top in the middle of the dining room (two tables away from the front door ) has been empty a while and the host said to wait a few minutes and they’ll clean it off for us. I politely reminded her we had a reservation for my boyfriends birthday and would appreciate if we weren’t sat right there. She stated she just remembered we asked for a booth in our reservation.
A few minutes later we were finally sat and a a banquette. 10 mins go by before the host comes back with water for us and I politely asked if we could order drinks because our server had not come by.
Our server finally came by and asked if we wanted to drinks. ( we had been sitting almost 15 mins and seen him serving tables right next to us) I told him the host took our order.
The host finally brings lemon drops in a rocks glass and looks like one cocktail was split between two glasses for my boyfriend and I because there was barely anything in each glass.
The server comes back a bit after we finished our drinks. And was helpful with the menu questions we had.
Even though he was not attentive at the beginning or end of our service he was nice and helpful.
He did not, however, do anything special for my boyfriend’s birthday or even wish him a happy birthday. We even witness him being a birthday dessert with a candle to the table next to us.
TLDR: Food presentation was beautiful. Food was good but not great.
Sushi Sasa did not have our reservation ready for over 20 mins after. They weren’t prepared for a booth request even though requested days in advance. Service was slow. Table not touched by server until 15 mins after we sat down even though he was at tables next to us multiple times before. For troubles we were offered on the house drinks, but one drink was split between the two of us. Dinner experience was not special at all for my boyfriend’s birthday. Witnessed server give birthday dessert with candle next to us didn’t even wish my boyfriend s happy birthday. Reservation notes weren’t shared with server. To spend $150+ on dinner for two we expected a lot more from Sushi Sasa. Wish we would have gone to our local spot that is half the price and has a way...
Read moreMy husband and I married on my birthday, so it's a special day for us to splurge and celebrate both my birthday and our anniversary. We went to Sushi Sasa and were in no hurry to get in and get out. We were greeted by our server fairly quickly, put our drink order in and had already decided that were both going to go with the chef's tasting menu. We have had a rushed experience with tasting menus in other restaurants, so before we ordered, I requested that we wanted our cocktail to serve as our "first course" and that we were in no rush for the food to begin arriving and would like to order another beverage to accommodate dinner. The server said, no problem. About 3 minutes later, the first course was delivered. I was no more than about 2 sips into my cocktail. It was a chilled salad course, so both my husband and I sat the seaweed salad aside to enjoy our drinks as requested. Our server came by about 4 minutes later and asked how everything was, I responded to let her know I had not yet tasted it. Then out came a glass of complimentary champagne for our celebration (which we we very grateful for) but this left two full drinks to consume. My husband finished his salad while I was still working on mine and his plate was cleared. Before I could finish my salad and they clear my plate, finish my cocktail and start on my champagne, the soup course was brought out. I mentioned that I wasn't quite finished with my salad and was told they didn't want the soup to get cold, however it was still served to my my husband and then myself only warm, at best. I requested the soup be brought out a little later so I could finish my salad. Now my husband's and my courses we're off on timing. I then finished salad and soup was immediately served. The rest of the courses were fine, however, being a slow Monday night, I could tell the wait staff was anxious to do something. During every course, the back waiters kept peeking over at our table, which I appreciate the attentiveness, but it felt more like being rushed and pushed to move on to the next course rather than great service. All this being said, for the total bill of $345 dollars, plus tip for the two of us, the service should have been more on point, especially when we gave the request at the beginning that we wanted time to enjoy our pre-dinner cocktail before beginning dinner. Our server also made us feel like we were inconveniencing her to do her job. The food was delicious, but thought it lacked a bit of creativity. Four out of six courses had the same tomatoes, whether in the dish or as a garnish as well as. The same salt was sprinkled on most of the sushi courses. For being a chef's tasting menu for $120 per person, I expected a little more. For the price we spent on this dinner, I was not impressed overall and would be hesitant to recommend this to a friend for the price. Cut that final bill in half and it would be a...
Read moreNot sure anymore... I've been coming to Sushi Sasa for 15 years. We even went there for take out during covid. The food was always good and the service was top notch. The atmosphere was great. All of that was true until the last 2 times we have gone there. 2 months ago we noticed that the service wasn't that good. Today, they charge you for parking. The restaurant took took a step backward too. Upon seating us, he said that the total will include a service charge. No problem as long as good service is provided. Well, to start with, they got our order wrong. We ordered 4 different rolls. We began eating and I asked my wife if she had changed 2 of the sushi rolls that I had ordered. She said she hadn't. A couple of mins later our waitress appeared. she was pretty nonexistent throughout the meal. When she did come to the loud dinning room, she concentrated on the party of 10 people and us in passing. Even when standing at our table, she was talking to the party of 10! She said that someone else had made a mistake and given us 2 different sushi rolls and offered to credit them to us. Throughout the meal, the food that we did order was very good. It would have been better if we received all of the correct food. Our waitress did a Houdini act for most of our meal but at the end, did ask us if there was anything else that we wanted. She brought the check which included a $41 service charge. 41 bucks for terrible service and the wrong food! Sorry Sushi Sasa, you are no longer...
