ARROWMONT SCHOOL OF ARTS AND CRAFTS, in Gatlinburg TN is an amazing school in so many different ways. I just took the oil painting class in Professor Gary Chapmen’s class and I can tell you without a doubt, he is Brilliant indeed! I learned so many thing I need to learn and I am so grateful to him. Professor Gary Chapman was honest in critiquing everyone’s art, and what they needed to do to advance and was there every minute to help you. The power points, handouts and products right down to properly cleaning your brushes and mixing of the proper chemicals were clearly explained and demonstrated. Professor Chapman made the class fun and I know we are all going to miss him. Every single staff member at ARROWMONT was so friendly and caring, that you know in your heart they really do appreciate and care about each and every one of you. The dining area is wonderful and the culinary chef and his team make the best foods around and so friendly. Thank you ARROWMONT you...
Read moreI've taken a workshop at Arrowmont for many consecutive years until the pandemic. I returned last summer and I have to say I won't be returning. Two reasons: I'm retired so I no longer need a "get away" from work and daily life. But the biggest reason is that while we are charged for a week of tuition and room and board, the studios close early Friday afternoon and anyone who is staying over no longer gets Friday dinner or Saturday breakfast.
In years past, staff would come around and get a headcount for "stay overs" and prepare meals for that number. Now I was left with one of two options: double pay for two meals (having to pay for ones that should've been part of the fees) or start a 10 hour drive home, and have to stop at a motel for the night, thus paying twice for housing for Friday night. Not cool. I am living on a fixed income and the additional costs on top of tuition and room and board are no longer...
Read moreHaving studied at Arrowmont as well as living in the community in which Arrowmont is such a valuable member, I can testify to the fact that they are a world-class arts and crafts school as well as a vital community resource. With a history that goes way back to the original work done by the Pi Beta Phi fraternity to educate the children of the area and develop the crafting skills of the local mountain folk, until today when world-reknown artists share their expertise and inspiration with students from all over the world, Arrowmont serves as a beacon of creativity hidden among the more mundane trappings of this tourist Mecca. A must-do for anyone wanting to develop their skills as well as enjoy the beauty of the country's most visited...
