I don’t even want to write this review. Not because it wasn’t good—quite the opposite. Mona Pasta Bar is the kind of place you selfishly want to keep to yourself. A true hidden gem tucked into downtown LA, it feels more like being let in on a secret than just grabbing dinner.
The owner personally called to confirm our reservation for six and greeted us like we were old friends. We sat at the bar, and he took care of us the entire night—thoughtfully, generously, effortlessly. Within minutes, we were sipping complimentary sparkling wine and hearing about the space’s origin—it used to be a ramen bar until he decided to follow his gut (and taste buds) and turn it into something distinctly his own.
The food? Ridiculous. Every dish felt both familiar and surprising, like someone reintroducing you to your favorite song but in a better key. It was soulful, simple, and confident.
It’s rare to find a spot that gets all the small things right and still manages to feel deeply personal. So yeah, part of me hopes you don’t go. But if you do—sit at the bar, say yes to whatever they recommend, and just enjoy being...

Service was spot on, my wine was delicious (a Chenin Blanc) and the Bolognese Pappardelle was mouthwateringly good! The wine list consist of natural wines. Such a chill vibe in here but we were early in our reservations so keeping that in mind I'd say it might get busier the later the hour. Also be aware they do NOT take cash for payment of your meal. They do, of course for tips just not for the meal.
Not a lot of room in here so don't come with the thought of a romantic dinner for two where you can whisper sweet-nothings to one another without someone else overhearing hahaha.
Parking lot was well lit behind the building, it is shared with the...
Read moreNew little Italian gem in DT. Absolutely delicious! Went with a group and we tried many things. I think my favorites are the crudo, cacio e pepe, the artichokes are delicious. I’m not a veal person, but that was phenomenal too. Food great all round, even down to the olives. The branzino is another standout! Amazing all natural wine selection. Very reasonable prices. Cute ambiance and decor, great vibe and staff--a good hangout just to get a glass of wine and an appetizer at the bar, or even at one of the outside tables. Through it will probably be hard to resist ordering more. Will definitely be returning...
