Came here a few months ago because I was worried there was something stuck in my nose. I didn't have insurance at the time, and the physician's assistant (the actual doctor is very booked and performs surgeries, so you will mostly see the PA) was very accommodating - asking if I wanted to do certain procedures and take certain medications at my own expense for my own treatment - they are definitely not trying to take your money here.
Did a CAT scan at their recommendation and found that I had a deviated septum and scheduled surgery. Met with Doctor Edwin once before the surgery. His bedside manners are a bit awkward, but with how well and quickly I recovered from surgery despite the amount of procedures performed, he seems like a very competent surgeon.
The most impressive part of my experience at this location was the reception. They are very knowledgeable and competent and try their best to accommodate your needs. There have been numerous occasions when I have walked into the office and witnessed a patient taking their emotions out on the staff and they have always remained calm and provided great service even after the scene (the population they serve seems to be mostly older immigrants with different norms and have difficulty communicating, even in their own language). The fact that the reception puts up with these outbursts on what seems like a daily basis and still provides excellent service is incredible. I wish I could tip them and they all deserve raises.
The PA herself is very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. I am glad she was able to treat me and she is sensitive to whatever other problems you present and is well-trained in emotional support with a great sense of humor. She's really just trying her best to provide great medical care and she is definitely doing an amazing job.
The only things I can complain about are the fact that there's no hand soap in the bathroom, which is sort of gross, but they have hand sanitizer, and that they schedule appointments within 15 minutes of each other, so rarely they are completely packed and there is a backlog of patients, making wait times take up to an hour (only happened once in my 5 visits).
Overall, I completely trust the team to take care of my needs and would definitely...
Read moreI was referred to Dr.Edwin Chan by my internist Dr.Tao Wu on May 2016. The NY Eye & Ear infirmary building is seen from afar as bluish and the elevators are transparently designed in a way that lets passengers see the streets below. It is just a few blocks away from the Charles B.Wang Community Health Center. Some of the secretaries were of dulcet tones. The waiting room is lighted with various windows. On my first visit an assistant took my pressure and asked health questions taking note of them in a computer. Then,Dr.Chan came in and we had a private consultation. He seemed to be serene and savvy. He felt with lucidity my neck and detected the lymph node that was enlarged, swollen with a mass and lump.He prescribed me Amoxicillin 875mg,1 tablet orally every 12 hrs, for ten days. That was the reason on why my face was inflated (also because of anemia I by that time gained weight) -now that the lymph node swelling is gone and I have moderated my food intake, I am currently in well form.
Dr.Chan was swift and exact. He checked my tongue with a wooden tongue depressor. Moreover, before inserting the flexible nasal endoscope through my nose, he utilized a decongestant medicine that cleared my nasal passage. The long endoscope was inserted imperturbably by Dr.Chan. Finally, the removal of impacted cerumen on my ears (which was due to accumulated usage of q-tips or others I have used to clean my ears...) was quite dolorous I beared it. When Dr.Chan inserted the cerumen iron suction removal tool my right ear started to bleed because the impacted cerumen was so tightly adhered to my ear. He was able to assuage me by telling me it was normal and not to be concerned.
For two days one of my ears was clogged -it takes a couple of days for the ears to get accustomed of the removal. In ten days I returned to Dr.Chan and my lymph node was substantially less inflamed. The Amoxicillin worked to diminish the inflammation but its after effects were upset stomach and other symptoms. I asked Dr.Chan to suggest me a great ear cleaning and he noted it for my pharmacy. He told me to come back for the annual ENT checkup. I am pleased with the velocity he had in resolving my...
Read moreThe doctor is fine but the front desk staff are incompetent. My insurance denied a CT Scan because the office didn't provide enough information. After I called the office to talk to them of this and that they needed to provide more information to appeal, they gave attitude and even suggested I pay out of pocket even though the letter from my insurance stated it would be approved if the office provided the information that I had surgery scheduled which I did... During this call the office told me that they would do the next steps and to not call back until they called me. I decided to trust them on that and it was a mistake. Now a month later I called to see the holdup and the person who answered said that the application was still pending but it would take a month and that my appointment in June would have to be rescheduled to September if I wanted to wait for CT Scan... When I hung up I was confused why I would need to move my appointment when it has already been a month so I should have the appeal results soon. Found out today by mail from my insurance that the office DIDN'T appeal until this recent phone call asking for an update on it! So now my surgery in June this month will probably be delayed all the way until September because of them. The person in the office also tried to convince me the CT Scan wasn't needed to precede with the surgery even though the doctor told me to get it beforehand. Super annoying and unprofessional of the office staff to offer this kind of advice they aren't qualified for or what I was even calling for. They probably were telling me to not do the CT scan to cover their mistake. I would look for...
