I'm thinking the raves for this new store must be mostly from people who haven't been to other Lidls, whether in NYC or elsewhere? Lots of issues - but let's start w/ the good, the store is new, clean, stocked, and most employees seem quite pleasant and helpful. So, first off the bakery is off the street and has only self-checkout, with two working kiosks. It's a hot mess and the young man working the area is of 'LIdl' (see what I did there?!) help - standing by the door far from the scanners, he suddenly barks out "stand there and wait til I call you' (to go scan and pay). Nice. Meanwhile 3 other people have swarmed into a growing line. Forget the baguette. As to the rest of the store, it seems to have far fewer Ethnic offerings and sections than the smaller Harlem store - which has a lot of Greek, Eastern Euro, Latin Ameircan and Italian European products. This has some but seemed to me far fewer, Next - no organic milk in cartons? This store is big, why not? It also, again vs Harlem, seems to have far fewer frozen hors d'oeuvres appetizer type offerings, among my favorite aspects of Lidl. Our total was pleasantly low when we paid, which they are known for, but you need to comparison shop, for example the Impossible 'beef' is actually cheaper at Trader Joe's. Not by much, but cheaper. Given the experiences at both I'll be sticking with TJs for my main shop unfortunately. I was really stoked about this opening but it was a let down. Hopes live on for the other two new Bkyn stores set to...
Read moreI just went for a wander at the new Lidl on Fulton Street across from DeKalb market. Definitely worth a shopping trip especially if you need frozen fish!
I bought for less than 20 bucks: 1 lb frozen wild caught shrimp that are not salted. Sardines in mustard sauce White asparagus in the jar. Bruschetta topping of sun dried tomatoes and capers A jar of capers.
There's a lot of interesting items that are edible and some that are not...
There are certainly bargains and things that make me curious like: Potato chips with 50% more flavor Canned herring with tomato and mango chutney... Inordinately large trowels
They have a little shopping carts for kids that are super cute. The problem I witnessed is getting the kids to give the shopping cart back at the checkout. There...
Read moreI’m really glad that there’s is a Lidl in Downtown Brooklyn now! When I went, everything was clean and well-stocked — I really hope it stays that way. The only thing that I don’t like about this particular store though is that the bakery (one of the best things about Lidl!) is downstairs by the front entrance and in a corner. This creates a bit of a congested area and I ended up having to check-out twice because I decided to get bread after finishing upstairs. I feel like the experience could’ve been thought through a bit more. Also, as someone else pointed out, there are currently no tongs in the cases and I saw someone grab a pastry with their bare hands. Overall though this is a much needed store for our area and I will probably be here at...
