ZERO stars, stay away from this store! I unfortunately just had an extremely unpleasant experience at the Modern State on 3rd avenue. I have shopped there on several occasions for various gifts and decorations including balloons for my son's birthday. Today, I stopped there to purchase an Easter basket for my son. I initially picked up a wooden basket, but afterwards saw a cloth option and put the wooden one back. I asked the black man who is usually standing around in the store (not sure if he is the manager) if there were any other cloth basket options and he said no. I then went to checkout and pay for the cloth basket, while the cashier was ringing me up, he (the black man) approached me with another cloth basket. I initially thought he was trying to get me to buy two, but then he stated that I had two cloth baskets, I told him that I only had one, but he continued to assert that I had picked up two. He then asked to check the Trader Joe's bag I was carrying, which was shocking to me, my guess is that he confused the wooden basket I had with a cloth basket and I explained to him that I had previously picked up a wooden basket and showed him where I put it back on the shelf. I also then opened my bag to show him that I did not have another cloth basket. It was extremely embarrassing and humiliating to be essentially accused of stealing an easter basket. He did not apologize and kept mumbling about another bag. I obviously did not purchase the overpriced cloth easter bag, left the store and bought one at Target instead.
I will never set foot in this store again and will make sure that my other mom and neighborhood friends will not either! I also unfortunately believe that this accusation would not have been made if I was a...
Read moreCashier did a wonderful job and telling me my balloons included the cost of helium. I explained to her I did not want helium because I was pasting them on the walls to decorate the house for a picture behind the birthday boy she brought the manager who told me I had to pay for the helium. I said I really didn’t want it can you blow it up with regular air? He said no I would have to charge you for regular air. This is our price take it or Levi said can you remove the helium and I’ll blow it up at home and he said no take it or leave it Basically charging you for something you’re not getting and I explain that you’re making me pay for something that I’m not taking and he said take it early. I can buy all of this on Amazon for a third of the price and I choose to support local customer service like this and policies like this are the reason Why doing that becomes harder and harder. Absolutely horrible and I come here once a month if not more for birthdays and for my kids toys For free air, they lost the customer or for a few dollars of helium charge. They couldn’t remove they lost about a $300 a month...
Read moreI e gone to this store occasionally for 15 years, usually for last minute party tabletop needs. I was there to select balloons for an upcoming birthday and to replace a broken Halloween prop. I started with the prop and left it at the registers with the young lady who was gracious and said, “take your time.” I was short of breath after running several avenues and 13 streets to arrive before cleaning time (7:00). I left without the balloons as I was told by the older bosses that the store was closed. I walked a few blocks and checked the time. It was 6:53 pm. Family-owned businesses used to be better primarily for service. I guess that was a previous era. They should have made the money and closed on time. But they closed early and I’m buying online from...
