After posting my original review I did hear from SkinLab and they apologized profusely for my experience. I was informed that they they strive for transparency, which I do believe because each time I checked out they did make sure to confirm the prices of all of the products instead of just telling me the final price which is helpful, and that at no point should I not have known about the costs of the additional services.
I felt like there was a desire to hear my experience and to correct the situation. Once again, the service provided was wonderful, the specialist was knowledgeable, and I would like to come back for another service, but I will be more cautious regarding saying yes blindly. They told me that they will be bringing this to the specialists' attention to prevent this from happening.
Original Review I’ve been to SkinLab twice. The first time I came in for my first ever facial, through a promotion at an event, I won $50 off and a free service. That experience was wonderful. I met with the specialist, and I was excited to take care of my skin and enjoy the experience. She talked me through everything, recommended some products to start off with. I was into it. I ended up buying a cleanser, toner, eye cream, and the phyto brightening treatment and mist, which were expensive, but I was investing in myself, so I was okay with it.
I was excited to continue and keep up with coming in periodically, not as often as they recommend because it is pricey, but still I was looking forward to coming back in. That all changed on my second visit.
I will say this may be because I was a novice at the whole thing, maybe this is normal and I was just clueless, but the specialist also knew this was only my second time, as she did my first. I booked a signature facial ($275), went in and she was lovely, remembered me, we chatted. She told me that she would recommend doing this and that, I said sure you know what you’re doing. At no point did she mention these were “enhancements” and that they would take my $275 service to $700. When I walked out to pay, the front desk told me my total was $919 (I was picking up a refill of a product and another she recommended) I could not even think of words. I took the one recommended product off, but that was still shocking and devastating to me as I had not expected anything close to that.
I went from having an enjoyable relaxing experience to total shock. I was so upset by this and by the specialist. Like I said, maybe this is normal, and no one mentions the pricing while going through services. Maybe it’s my fault because I knew we were doing one of the services that I did get free last time, and I should have known it would be additional. Maybe you can’t come in to just get a facial without all the enhancements, but still, I think it is totally unethical to not mention additional pricing.
To take a service I had budgeted for to something more than double, it’s unacceptable to not confirm I’m okay with that. Because of this experience I can no longer justify coming to this location, I cannot trust the specialist I saw. I’m sure for other people who come in maybe $900 a service is fine, but it was not for me and anyone who comes in needs to know that you have to ask the questions and confirm before you agree to anything, even if it seems like it’s part of the process it might not be. Like I said, maybe my fault, but I would want someone to be very clear with me if I went into a service like this again.
The service is good, but if you are new to any of this, be careful and make sure you know what you are agreeing to. I hope this review helps someone before they are caught spending more than double or maybe the specialists can be trained to advise their clients of price increases before they walk out of the...
Read moreOn April 15, 2022 I visited Tribeca Medspa on Hudson Street. Laura Alstein administered the following: $900 botox bundle-50 units $126-neck repair Laura stated that the 'bundle' would be to my benefit since I would have units left over for use in future visits. She never shared how many units she used, on me, that day. She stated that she would call me to see how I was doing in approximately 5 days after my treatment. Laura never called me back. I called her since, after five days, I was experiencing swelling from my nose down the front of my face. When she returned my call, I explained what was occurring. She simply said that their products never reacted like that. That was all; she never apologized for not keeping her word about calling me. On July 21st, I visited your 71st Street facility. I learned that Laura had used 45 of the 50 botox units on me. This meant that there were only 5 units left which is nothing! It means that I would have to purchase another "bundle" if I chose botox and that these units could not effectively be used for any other treatment. I called on April 22, 2022 and made a complaint. Judy, the Manager, returned my call. She praised Laura's expertise and shared that she was aware that Laura wasn't as open in sharing information with clients as she should be. Judy offered me a 10% discount on any treatment that I chose on my next visit. I agreed. However, I'm awake at this early hour, writing, because in retrospect I feel that this offer adds insult to injury. Surely, Judy could have been more generous in offering a discount. Especially after what I experienced, with Laura, at Tribeca Medspa in April. The offered discount isn't going to do anything to defray the cost of any future treatment I choose to receive at the 71st Street location. I feel scammed by Laura and disrespected by Judy's offer. I would like to be offered another resolution that doesn't leave me feeling so totally wronged! To that end, I am requesting a refund for my procedure on April 15th to be applied to another, of my choosing, at your 71st...
Read moreMy first time and was unsure about which treatment to do so I had booked a skin care consultation to learn about product recommendations as well as skin treatments to have don based on my skin type and concerns---which of I received neither. My appointment was with Jillian, who was rushed, did not consult or even look at my skin. There was no recommendations other than I need to use retinol. I learned nothing and was still confused about which Skinceutical products I should be using. I needed help setting up a daily skincare routine. My concerns were not consulted on and she never even reviewed my paperwork that I had completed because she kept asking what my concerns were even though they were specifically listed on the form. I left not learning anything. For a consultation, I felt that I would have left there knowing at least what service to book next, as well as some product recommendations. However since she never even checked my skin, or looked at my skin then how could you know. I even had the scope done to identify my skincare items that I could address, but she never even told me what the results of the scope were or what they showed. All Jillian told me at the end was that I could see the Dr. there today and leave with retinol. I thought the point of the consultation was to learn more about the products - which I learned absolutely nothing. This was a lazy rushed and horrible facial experience . It did not meet my expectations in terms of the value I received from your medical aesthetician. I left feeling dissatisfied. I should have known last week, when they told me they only had one person in on Monday and Tuesday, that everyone else was out on vacation. I had seen great reviews on the other aestheticians, should have gone with my gut and...
